Screen Issues with LG G2

Having several screen issues with the LG G2

  • When on a call, the screen goes black and freezes, and thus, I cannot end the call. Power button does not work to hang up or restart. Eventually it restarts itself. Very annoying, as I've called people, and when the voicemail picks up, I cannot hang up, so they get a recording of about 60 seconds of silence.
  • When using the phone, the screen times out. I have gone into the settings to increase the time out interval, but it does not work. I also don't believe the screen should time out WHILE I'm using the phone. It should only time out when the screen is not being used.
  • When the phone is in landscape mode, I cannot turn on the screen. Each time I knock to wake up, or hit the power button on the back, the screen turns on for a split second, then shuts back off. I can ONLY turn on the screen in portrait mode. This is also very irritating when trying to view something in landscape mode, and the screen times out, and I have to turn the phone to portrait just to get the screen on again.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Make sure you are not covering your proximity sensor with a case or screen protector. It sits between your front camera and speaker. Covering it will make the phone do crazy things.

Thank you, I will mess with it tonight and see if that is the root cause of all my problems.

What finally worked for you to resolve this problem? I'm having the same issue! No wrist-flicking fixes this problem for me Smiley Sad

Oh yes, there is this other trick which may help - if you need to pull up your dialpad or press end on the call, and the screen is black, just do a flick of the wrist (or crack the whip) gesture with the device.

Wrist flicking does not work for me either and sensor is not covered up.  I am getting really annoyed.

I took my device to the local store and they did a soft reset by holding down the power button and the up button on the back until the screen reset and reloaded. Then everything is back to okay. Good luck!

Nope my screen goes black .  There must be something wrong with the sensor. 😞   I just got this refurbish phone last week.

I experienced this issue when I replaced the frame on my phone and had to transfer everything over. The proximity sensor wasn't close enough to the glass onto the new screen so I placed a folded piece of paper between the sensor and the black piece that screws down. Make sure you place the rubber piece in the frame before installing the proximity sensor. I installed a program called sensor kinetics to see if the proximity sensor was working properly. I hope this helps! It took me a couple hours of troubleshooting to come up with a solution. The issue is that the proximity sensor wasn't close enough to the screen and I believe it was reflecting off the glass and getting a false reading. Download that program and scroll down to the proximity sensor. It will either read 5CM or 0CM. Mine was always reading 0CM. Something else to note: if you unplug the sensor with the phone on, you will need to reboot the phone to get a reading in the program.

-The flick of the wrist didn't work for me.  I did a soft reset as mentioned and that fixed about 1/3 of my black screen issues.  I've had this phone since December and it has not had this issue until recently.  I cannot navigate my phone while on call, so if someone asks for my schedule, a contact, or if I would like to surf the web while on the phone I can't do anything.  It is really frustrating when I need to use my dial pad for an automated service.

-Also the double tap feature seems to be on it's way out.  I can handle that.

-The middle button on the back won't wake up the phone.  I have to press the middle button, followed immediately by the top button to wake up my phone.  Or it just flashes the screen on and locks it out again.

Also, when I make a call and the screen blacks out.  I leave a voice mail for the recipient that is forever long.  I have been explaining that my phone is broken and to quit listening to my voice mail.

Another example.  I was switching visual voice mail services.  I called my own voice mail from my phone, you know, held down the number 1, and I could not get out of my voice mail for 5 minutes.  I had to wait for the phone to realize that there was nothing happening on my end and end the call.

I'm terribly sorry to see that you're experiencing all these issues with your phone, mmmooners! Please back up your data, and try a Factory Reset. http://vz.to/1rHpNKU  This step will erase your device, but may also clear out any bugs in the software.

Thanks,

MichelleH_VZW thanks for your response.  I performed the Factory Reset and followed the instructions as noted at http://vz.to/1rHpNKU  -  Still, the problem persists.  I just made a call for work and I was unable to hang up.  During the call the back button does not wake up the phone, nor the double tap.

The firmware for the touchscreen needs to be updated. Unfortunately, the service menu to perform that operation was removed from our LG G2s. There's a way to install it, but that would be modding your phone and voiding your warranty.

Likely, the only way to get this fixed is to do a warranty replacement.

mmmooners,

Thanks for following those steps. Did you remove any cases or screen protectors it has and then tested calls? Just to make sure we rule out other factors, please go to Settings>Gestures>Motion Sensor Calibration and recalibrate.
