Anyone ever notice how when using stock messenger that sometimes the speech to text just doesn't work? I see the mic button vibrate with my words, but no text shows. It works most of the time. I know the mic hardware works, so I'd think it more software related. Cache has been cleared, and I uninstalled google KB leaving only the stock LG KB. OK Google on any screen is off, Google Speech Engine is on, OK Google hears me fine most of the time. Maybe since Speech to Text is associated with Google that might explain why both OK Google and the stock messenger are sometimes malfunctioning. A reboot always helps, for a while. Does the same thing with both Google and LG Keyboards.

I wish I could say what exactly WOULD have fixed the issue, however, I elected to factory reset. Voice to text works now.
I figured out that if I tap the mic in the Google search bar on my home screen, it kind of kicks the speech recognizer into gear. Then, the SMS speech to text works.
I'm not really sure how to phrase this in simple fashion to get a relevant Google search result.
There might be a data connection issue or a Google server issue since the voice track has travel to the Google servers for analysis and back as a string of text.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
If they both use google server connections, why would OK Google/Search have to be used first to make the stock app work?
I went so far as to remove my Google account from the phone, reboot, re-add, reboot, just to maybe freshen the connection. No progress so far.

I had the same issue a very long time ago but thankfully have not experienced it since. Have no clue how it resolved itself other than the FDR I did around the time I was experiencing other issues with sending/receiving pictures via MMS.
