my tablet downloaded Android 5 about 3 months ago and is now running Android 5.0 2 .
I am dreading Verizon forcing me to put 5 on my phone and I want to do anything I possibly can to avoid that.
does anyone have any suggestions on how to avoid it?
also I would like to begin a list of everything that's wrong with Android 5.
my first and most obvious immediate complaint was that it eliminates all of your photographs and videos on your phone and upload them to Google+ automatically so that you will be dependent on Google in the future and not move to another and much better operating system.
you can still find your photos and videos on Google+ but they are not organized. it's a disaster compared to having the gallery.
an even bigger problem is that it allows apps to turn on data. without your permission and it allows apps to switch from wifi to mobile data without your permission.
This makes Verizon more money. in other countries you are allowed to choose your operating system and the mobile phone company cannot force you to upload their new operating system that makes them more money and screws up your phone. this is just the result of corruption in the American political system.
There must be a way to prevent this upload. I talked to Verizon and they said I could just keep saying no to the upload but it will start happening every 20 minutes and eventually verizon will just force its without asking.

What tablet is it? And why did you post this in the G2 section?

Because I have a G2 . my tablet being destroyed by 5.0 is not such a big deal but my g2 being destroyed by 5 is a very very big deal that I want to avoid at all costs.
this update is not for the consumer and it is a huge update. the only purpose of the update is for Google and Verizon to make more money by making the phone a much less desirable device to use

5.0 on your tablet and 5.0.2 on a G2 is two completely separate things. If you don't want lollipop I suggest you get a phone that will never get lollipop

Aparently its even worse on the g2 than on my. nexus 7 tablet. I paid cash for my phone. This phone is private property.Verizon forcing this update is Verizon vandalizing my private property. The fcc anf the ftc should not allow this but they had been bribed to allow it.

thanks for the advice but I'm not going to use an old phone for the rest of my life. They dont have enouph memory and they just don't work properly with new apps for a number of reasons.
in many ways the old phones were better because the operating system was better. as time goes on an Android becomes more ubiquitous they modify it in order to make a few more pennies per phone. the modifications are not for the customers and make the phone much less desirable.

True, the way Google is locking down these new stock OS versions they become more Apple-like each time.

right Google is getting so bad that it might as well be an apple. I remember when Android 2 first came out it was spectacular compared to Apple. it was light years ahead of Apple but Apple has become better because it has to compete with Android and Android has become much worse since the 4 series started coming out.
when they took away the navigation app so that they can make more money off of Google Maps
which really sucks for navigation is when it became glaringly obvious that Google was going to shit all over their customers to make a few extra bucks. it's just been getting worse since then.
I wonder what it takes to get another operating system off the ground ?
I think collusion between the carriers and Google and Apple will prevent it. they know that this type of corruption is going to keep a better operating system from coming on the market in America so they're just going to go ahead and keep abusing their customers as long as the FCC and FTC continue to allow it.
There is no reason to suspect that they won't continue to allow it.

my Nexus 7 is running 5.1 by the way. it has already updated the update because the original update turned an actual Google product into a brick. at least with 5.1 it runs.

since you seem like the expert I'm going to ask another question. I've not had to refuse the update because the update once wifi to download. As long as I never turn on wifi I hope that I will be able to avoid this download.
What do you think ?

Well, Ubuntu, OxygenOS (Cyanogenmod on 1+1,) Blackberry, and Windows have all tried to make it. Ubuntu is still not viable in the EU, 1+1 MIGHT make waves in the East, and the other 2 in the States are slowly fading away. The update can still download on Mobile Data and WiFI. So there may not be any stopping it.

Thanks , I'm going to look that up.
I don't know about oxygen. I know someone that runs ubuntu in Ukraine. I didn't think it ran on Verizon? He likes it okay but its. Not great. at least you know someone's not trying to rip you off.
I'm very familiar with Microsoft and Blackberry and ..... no dice for sure. not keen on a Chinese phone either.
It really sucks that the Google company is so bad.
I might go back to Apple next time since they have improved but the g2 is an awesome phone. I don't want to replace it until a better phone comes along and the new ones are only slightly better. Certainly not worth plunking a bunch of cash down for a new one , particularly since I've got this one all nicely set up the way I want it.
You can never get it back the way it was.
I guess the reason Google can get away with screwing over its customers just because they don't have much alternative and Google knows it.
I hope they're in for a rude awakening like Apple was or Palm was when something better came along.
The g2 was so awesome when it came out its still gonna be a while before anything appreciably better comes along.
The two things that really annoy me about the G2 is the speakers in this. I can't imagine what they were thinking when they put such cheapo crapaloid speakers in this thing.
2. The battery is not replaceable. A non replaceable battery is a serious problem if you want to keep your phone a while.
Did they put better speakers in the g3 ?
I'm spoiled when it comes to speakers because I always had Motorola's until China bought them.

the update just has a message saying that is waiting for a wifi connection. then it goes away after a couple of days. it's no big deal if that's the only thing that ever happens. I'll just make sure I leave wifi off. we will see what happens. if it ever actually downloads and starts giving me some kind of banner that pops up constantly I'm going to have to figure out how to turn off that notification.
I read on a forum how to do it and it was a bit complicated. something I'd rather not do
