stream netflix to HD TV

I was told by the tech at the verizon store  that with a HDMI cable from my revolution to my HDMI TV port that I could send netflix from my phone to the/a  TV. so, I ordered it from Verizon and hooked it up today and   nothing happens when I plug into any HDMI port on the  new this year Samsung LED TV.  any suggestions?

The HDMI is made to only display personal videos and images and is restricted from playing and copyright material, so Apps like Netflix, Blockbuster and other video information sites are not allowed.
