In September, I was relaxing at home playing video games. Someone knocked on my door to tell me about a Verizon internet free trial. The free trial included NFL Sunday Ticket with Youtube TV. I had already purchased Youtube TV and NFL Sunday Ticket, but figured I would be able to cancel it if I got the Verizon internet free trial.
The agent (named Josh, his phone number being *****) told me it is a 30 day free trial, within which I do not need to make any payment.
I received my router for the internet sometime in late September. I had 30 days for a free trial, and if I did not want to proceed I had to cancel and return the router.
On October 2nd, I reached out to Josh, the door to door sales agent asking how to return the router. I did not receive a response (after a follow up) until October 2nd. He just asked what the issue was, and did not answer my question. I had to keep following up, and did not receive a response until October 9th. Still no return label.
I did not receive the return label until October 13th. I immediately dropped off the router.
Fast forward to October 25th, I received a bill in the mail from Verizon. I had already cancelled this and returned the router weeks ago. I sent a photo of this to Josh, the Verizon agent. I asked what this was for. He said "You don't have to pay it ignore it"
I received another one on November 6th. Sent a photo of this to him. He told me to call the 800 number, which I did.
I kept receiving more bills, and letting the agent know. He reassured me everything was fine since I've returned the router.
On March 16th, I received a notice from a collection company. I sent a photo of it to the agent, saying this is unacceptable and it needs to be handled. The agent responded that this should have been fixed a long time ago, and that he would call tomorrow to get it sorted.
Two weeks later, I am under contract to buy a house for a lot of money. I have $20k in an earnest money deposit.
My credit score went from a 728 to a 585 over a $102.57 collection from Verizon that I never owed. I am now going to lose $20k in my earnest money deposit, and not be able to close on this house. This is negligence by Verizon.
