Has anyone seen the promotion from Verizon that you would get an incredible trade-in credit for your old phone when you upgrade your phone? I was told that I would get $400 credit toward purchasing a new iPhone with a special promotion, and there was even a website link to validate and confirm the trade-in value (checking device IMEI number, model, etc.).
$400 is about 57% of the original value of my old phone, and I did not think that this was unreasonable deal. So considering that I have been using Verizon for more than 10 years (and considering Verizon's reputation), I have decided to take this opportunity to upgrade my phone.
Everything seemed to be great - I got my new phone within a few days. After sending my old phone, however, I have received a message from Verizon that I would get only $55 for my old phone!? Huh?!?
I have reached out to the Verizon support, but the support agent told me that Verizon would not pay any more than $55, as it was later determined that the phone's fair-market value is actually $55.
Well, I would not have traded in my old phone if it was going to be valued for only $55. I would rather pay the full price for the new phone, and keep the old phone for backup instead. I have kept my old phone in a pristine condition - clean it everyday, protecting it with the best phone protection gears, etc. There was not even a single scratch to the old phone when I traded it in. No one would trade in a perfectly fine working phone for less than 8% of the original value!
So I have requested my old phone back, as I do not want to sell my old phone for such low price, but I was told that Verizon cannot return my old phone, and that I would just have to accept the $55 trade-in credit as is. Wow, I wonder if there is a word for such thing - telling people to upgrade their phone with a very attractive trade-in offer that cannot be delivered? Btw, they will also rush you to send your old phone right away -- saying that you will not get your trade-in credit if your old phone was not sent in a timely manner. How classic! I cannot believe I fell for this - of course, however, this was Verizon. Who wouldn't? I am extremely disappointed with Verizon!
