Adding a new line with a device promo and cancelling an old line

I'm looking to add a new line with a promotion but at the same time I want to cancel an old line I no longer use. Can I do this at the same time without impacting the promotion?
The old device has no payments due and is not under any contract. I also do not need this number ported anywhere.

Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid, but if it were me, I'd disconnect the line which you don't want anymore first, then sign up for the new line under the promotion later. Otherwise, there's a chance that the promotion will be put onto the old line which might not qualify and will mess both things up.
