Billing and promotion

I recently went into Verizon to discuss a decrease in my bill. I was told they had a promotion going on and my husband and I could get new phones and I could also get an Apple Watch and my bill would actually decrease. A little deceiving since I was unaware that the only thing available with watches is ones with cellular, which I did not want and I lost all of the perks of mprecious plan of Disney, ESPN and Hulu. None of this was explained because I would have not made any changes if I had known. Now my bill is almost $20 more a month with a hefty increase this next month due to activation charges which were not thoroughly explained either by the representative. My husband and I are both teachers but were told before there was no discount because of our plan.
Hoping that Verizon will contact me to resolve all these issues and keep my business since we have been with them for 26 years. I was already contemplating switching to lower my bill (especially since my new DILโs dad works for competitor, but I am nothing but loyal. That being said, after this, looking at other carriers especially since Verizonโs service is not above the rest anymore.

You're not the first person who's posted about this happening during an upgrade. Would be nice if Verizon would be more transparent about the things like the $35/line activation fee, the charges for equipment setup or data transfer if you have a Verizon representative move your data from an old phone to a new one or otherwise tweak with your new phone to get it the way you like instead of you doing it yourself. Personally, I find it hard to believe that something can get cheaper if you go to something "newer".
It may only be a rumor, but you might be able to go back to your old plan if you ask soon enough; otherwise, your legacy plan is gone forever. Devices can be returned if it's been less than 30 days, but you would have to pay a restocking fee.
As for the competition charging less, from what I've seen by looking at the other 2 large carriers' websites, they charge in about the same range as Verizon (and have activation fees tacked on, etc.), so the grass is not necessarily greener elsewhere. There are numerous 3rd party discount carriers, but as with anything else, you typically get what you pay for since the budget carriers are renting space from one or more of the "Big 3" to provide service - and the network owner doesn't have to care about the cheapie customers since said customers are not direct customers.
If you're being priced out of the market and don't want to use the discount carriers, there is prepaid service with all the large carriers which is considerably less than the postpaid plans. However, you will be deprioritized to all the postpaid customers on the network (so still a case of getting what you pay for).I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
