When I called Verizon sales last week she offered me a $300 discount on a Pixel 8a, along with a $55 5G Unlimited plan. Since Verizon didn't have any of the color I wanted they said I could get it at Best Buy and that she would call while I was at the store to work with their sales agent to coordinate the discount price on the phone and set up the new 5G service.
I met a sales person at Best Buy 2 days later and explained what I was trying to to do. He was skeptical of the $300 discount, as it wasn't on their daily "deals" list. When the Verizon agent called, I let her talk to the Best Buy sales person directly.
It all went South from there as she said that she couldn't find that offer.
We got "disconnected" and called Verizon sales. This agent agreed that there was no such deal available for the 8a, but she was eager to sell me a Pixel 8 at a very steep discount. I declined her offer as I was just not in the mood to deal with Verizon. The Best Buy folks were very supportive.
Is this a common thing with Verizon?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

candlerman, we're truly sorry to read about your experience. We know it's important to receive accurate pricing information, and we always want to provide full transparency, especially when you're purchasing a new device. It is possible that the specific promotion the agent first shared may have expired, or was not available at national retailers. Please tell us, do you still need help with your upgrade? Was the Pixel8a device the only phone you were interested in?

Thanks. I just did it. Unfortunately, JESSE from Verizon hasn't sent the Private Note, yet. It's only been a couple hours ๐

If you haven't gotten the PM yet, the CS rep didn't send it for whatever reason. You can message them directly by going to the PM envelope and it works like email from there. Send the message to vzw_customer_support or you could try calling or the live chat. It may take a couple days for them to get back to you since it is Saturday as I write this reply and I know they aren't in the forums much at all on Saturdays and they're not here on Sundays.

Final report
Verizon customer service representative told me that he could not find any record of the discounted offer as described in my initial posting,
Bottom line is that Verizon will not honor a $300 discount on the ($549 retail) Pixel 8a, but they did offer me a ($699) Pixel 8 for $0.
I don't understand the math: $300 vs. $699. Oh well.
