Chrome to phone app rings constantly when notification sound setting is "Silent"

Just upgraded to ICS, seems to work perfectly... except this one problem. I downloaded the "Chrome to Phone" app (CTP) from Google along with the new Chrome browser on my RAZR MAXX. I also installed the corresponding CTP extension within Chrome on my desktop PC. When I click on the CTP icon on my desktop to send a link, the link gets sent to my phone just fine... the problem is, the notifcation ringtone simply won't stop. Ever. It rings and rings and rings and rings and, well, you get the point. The only salvation for this incessant and exceptionally annoying problem is to turn the phone off. If I want to get a cascading cacophony of ringtones, I merely have to click on the CTP icon multiple times on my desktop, and all of those notification ringtones play on top of each other. Incessantly. Forever. Kill me now.

I have not been able to find any setting in the app itself to turn off ringtone notification. The only options are "Automatically launch links" and "Let me launch links manually". The other option is to disconnect the phone from the service, which is equivalent to uninstalling the app entirely. Not exactly a solution, since I really like this feature and would love for it to work properly.

I found on another site that someone wanted to disable the notification sound, and they were instructed to change the "Default Notification" sound under settings. Well, my setting is set to "Silent" since I don't want little tones to be emitted every time I get an e-mail. This is the crux of the problem. Apparently the application programmers decided that if someone wants silent notification of links sent via CTP, they must be masochistic and thus really want the stupid default ringtone to play forever instead. Hooray and cheers to the Google programmers for making me want to stab myself in the eye with a dull, rusty knife.

The only fix for this is to change the notification sound to something other than "Silent". Any sound is acceptable, because Google definitely wants you to hear the notification. As soon as I do this, the CTP app works just fine. Except the phone now plays that notification sound for all kinds of things, which is exactly what I didn't want.

Maybe others can test this on their phones and see whether it's limited to the RAZR, or whether it's an Android ICS bug.

Remove the ( CTP ) App then Soft Reset Your Maxx. And if you have a Google account already established in your Maxx witch you should it can Link with Google through the Account.

Sounds like a great idea, except it didn't work. Uninstall the app 100 times, reboot 100 times, it still happens.

And which witch are you referring to?

Ok Just try uninstalling the Chrome app or apps if your Maxx was working ok before the installation of them.. Uninstalling them should get your Maxx back on track.. One app that i've always used and was suggested a long Time ago by our Community Leader Wildman is System Panel App you can get it ( Free or for $2.99 ) or Less. I got the Pro version as they drop the Adds on it..

One other thing you may have to do even after Uninstalling that app or Apps is Doing what is called Clearing of the Cache Partition you don't loose any thing it just cleans the Cache's on the Apps..but try what i suggested the Uninstalling first..

I'm fairly confident this is a bug in the application itself, and not something to do with the cache. The app itself is not using any of the cache, and it only has a tiny amount of data storage (16k after re-installing).

I've submitted a bug report to the Android open source project, I suspect they might have something more constructive than the rather trite "uninstall and reboot" methodology you are promoting.

Have you tried contacting the developer of the application... If the issue is present only when app is installed the app may not be ICS compatible yet.

There is a number of apps still waiting for ICS bug fix updates.. Maybe the developer has a solution.

Well I tried contacting Larry Page, who I think works at Google, but they didn't answer my call. So I guess if Google isn't ready for ICS yet, then perhaps no one is?

This is where the confusion starts, because a software company makes multiple Apps does not guarantee compatibility because there is other factors to take into consideration...

Like installed 3rd party applications and systems settings, have you tried lclearing system cache to see if this effects anything.

Basically you are still speaking of a 3rd party app that can have issues like all other apps, research Google maps issues that has popped up after OS upgrades.

I suspect strongly that this is a bug within the application and not a problem with the cache. More than anything, I was hoping that someone else with a RAZR MAXX had this application installed and could test whether it was happening to them or not.

You are so quick to dismiss a possible nature of problem before even trying.. How do you plan to find a solution if you don't troubleshoot...

I just don't get the chain of thought here... There is two side.

1. It helps

2. It Does Nothing
