Ever since KitKat was pushed to my droid razr m, I have not been happy. Very decreased battery life along with the phone getting and staying quite warm. The loss of swype that was included when I bought it (yes, I know I COULD buy the app for cheap, but that's just not right). Some app icons now have a solid background that used to be transparent. Changes in notifications, messaging, etc that I never asked for.
Now comes a "security update". I was hoping it would resolve some of the issues, but things are now worse. The battery doesn't last me the full day anymore unless I keep it in my pocket. Even worse - when someone sends me a picture message, it just says 30kb downloading. It can be an hour or more before I ever get to see what was sent. I know a million people say this every day, but I REALLY can't wait until my contract is up with Verizon. If they would make updates optional instead of interrupting what you're doing every 10 minutes to install the update you don't want, then I'd be fine. If I could have my original phone back the way it was when I bought it, I'd be excited to remain a loyal customer.
this is two failed updates in a row that are forced on us. Can't wait to be done.

I know how important group messages are kfritch0123! I experienced similar issues when I updated my software and I was able to resolve by doing a factory reset, give it a try. Follow the steps at this link http://vz.to/1j7V5Ul **uncheck at step 3 - very important**, and keep us posted.

andrewsernestine,
I know how important battery life can be! Let's see what we can do to improve your phone's performance. Sometimes with a new update there can be an app or setting conlflict. I would thoroughly reivew these 10 tips to attempt to locate any conflicts; http://vz.to/1AO7vtw

I have done those tips and it is still overheating. The battery apps are not detecting it. It started happening after the update. My phone was already the bare bones on everyone (which defeats the purpose of all of the col smartphone features). Well, my contract is up next month and I am dumping the phone. I will say that it has served me well for two years until the last month of having it.

I do. It just seems like a pain to go through a claim when my contract
ends next month. Thanks for the response!

slmmjjj Getting a warranty replacement won't be a hassle, at all. If the issues are not related to physical or moisture damage (and you have extended warranty or Total Mobile Protection) A replacement can be sent out in as little as 2 business days or overnight.

Since update battery drain is awful. Mine lasts 2-3 hrs when doing nothing ( no open apps). It overheats badly. Texting is awful, especially group texts. Everything is laggy...can't even open "settings". Hopiong they fix this asap...don't like paying a high monthly fee for a paper weight.

Hasii,
Sorry to hear you have also been having trouble with the battery life on the Droid Razr M. Let's identify what is causing that trouble and get you back to enjoying you phone. First, let's look for at any applications that might be causing the drain. Here is our list of high risk apps: http://vz.to/1mEdoYW . If any of these are installed please remove: http://vz.to/1mEe5Sg .
Next, on you phone go to Settings> Display> Brightness and ensure display power saver is enabled. Wipe the cache partition http://vz.to/1yGka3p . Connect the device to the charger and power off. Once the device is charged to 100% power it on, take it off the charger and let us know how long it is lasting.

Hello. PLEASE HELP. The update has been chewing through my battery. The phone often heats up so much it is uncomfortable to touch or keep in my pocket!
I have already taken the following steps:
- Cleared cache
- Uninstalled potential problem "high-risk" programs like Facebook, etc.
- Power savers are enabled
- Screen brightness is set to automatic adjustment
- Everything else is fine, I'm not an idiot!
PLEASE LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING 3 SCREENSHOTS:
In each of these my phone was sitting on my nightstand UNUSED. connected to wi-fi. You will notice the following:
- In each of these, you will see normal battery drain, and then all of a sudden catastrophic battery drain (a very sharp downward slope). This is obviously the function that is causing the battery drain and device heating.
- In each of these, the battery drain seems to last a certain amount of time and then stop (you can see in two of them that I began charging it at some point)
- In each of these, it is an ANDROID SYSTEM PROGRAM that is causing the damage. "Google Services," "Android OS," "Android System," "MotoCare," etc.
I have noticed that turning Wi-Fi off seems to save the battery. So whatever ridiculous bug is causing this catastrophic battery drain seems to be connected to Wi-Fi. Since I use the Wi-Fi both in my home and office, PLEASE do not suggest that I simply do not use Wi-Fi, that will be completely unacceptable and will mean that there is basic functionality of the phone that does not work.
Thank you for your time. Please let me know that you are actually working on this problem and if there are any fixes in the works. Thank you.

Having same battery issues. Battery tool says OS is highest consumer of power when I check at a hot time. The other day I used the navigation mode to travel 10 miles and it told me it would take over 2.5 hours and drained 40% of my battery while getting too hot to hold. The update being pushed out fails to install. After about 20% I get a failed message with Andy on his back with an exclamation in a triangle. Took it to the local store and they did a FDR but the install still fails. Motorola Mobility claims this means I moded my device which I have not.

This seems to be a widespread issue. I thought my phone got messed up, so Verizon sent me a replacement. The replacement is quickly becoming as useless as the prior phone. All of this began in mid september after the phone updated software. I really wish someone would fix this problem, or I wish Verizon would offer an alternative phone for the current Razr M customers. There is a forum on the Motorola site that is also discussing this.
Verizon ------ PLEASE HELP!

We definitely want to help OhioSam66, I know how important it is to make sure your battery and phone are reliable. Please share the specific problems you are having to look into this with the manufacturer. Have you tried device in Safe Mode? If so, for how long?

I'm also having the same problems with my Droid RAZR HD since the update, i.e., rapid battery drain accompanied by by overheating. I'm also getting texts stuck at "Sending..." for a long time (hours) which negates the usefulness of texting.
The phone was great before the update, and is now totally unreliable since the update.
Any Android fixes forthcoming?

Mine also does the sending thing with text. This has all been after the update. My contract ends today probably going to just dump this and get something different.

Hi Slmmjjj,
Wait! We would be lost without you. Does this happen with every text message or certain contacts? Does the device say the text message is stuck on "sending" but the user still receives the message in a timely manner or in stead of saying "delivered"?
Thanks,

Same issues here. All group messages require downloads that take sometimes hours. I even tried safe mode and had issues. This only occurred once I completed the latest update to my droid RAZR hd in september.. Hope it gets fixed because I am stuck with this phone until April...
