Droid Turbo 2 phone sound keeps cutting off for the ring and the alarm clock

I have a Droid Turbo 2 phone through Verizon. For some reason the sound cuts off on the phone without warning. The phone will not make a ringing sound nor will the alarm make a sound. The phone messages will also not play. If I turn the phone off and then back on the ringer will work and the alarm and I can hear the recorded messages. Within a day or so though the sound cuts out again and I have to cut the phone completely off and back on again to hear the ringer or to hear messages. What is causing this and what is the solution?

A phone is only as good as the sound it produces, RCJC333. Let’s
restore your faith in its consistency. How long have you been aware of the
sound behaving this way? Do you use Bluetooth?
