Droid Turbo overheating

Tried using Google Maps on a trip and within 1/2 hour received notice phone was overheating. Temp 108.4 NO other RUNNING APPS, vehicle was NOT hot. I am TRYING to find out MAXIMUM TEMP for droid turbo. Seems Motorola themselves don't know. So, WHO KNOWS THE MAXIMUM temp for this phone. Heck, if ya can't even use Google maps, only for 1/2 hour, phone isn't worth crap then. And Verizon Don't tell me to wipe cache, that was just done this week when I wasn't receiving phone calls. Motorola told me if I'm using data and Google maps it will get hot. WTH, how else are ya suppose to use it?

Believe I found solution to overheating. I took the case (heavy plastic) off the phone and so far so good.

Let's get to the bottom of this! When using the Google Maps app the phone can get hot because the apps is constantly running. is the phone heating up when using other apps or functions on the phone?

Games it overheats as well. In other words, anything that might run for 20 plus minutes the turbo overheats. I need to be able to use Google maps on short trips (3-4 hours). Ideas please?

Heck, if I have to buy another GPS, might as well ditch Verizon and go with Straight talk or Go phone on ATT.

Being able to use your phone while on a trip is definitely important, especially if using Google Maps. The phone will heat up while using Google Maps on a 3 hour trip because it's running for so long. Is the phone turning off or is it not functioning correctly when using Google Maps for an extend time?

I only was able to use Google maps for 1/2 hour!!! before it warned me phone was overheating. Wish I could have used it on 3-4 hour trip, I wouldn't have a problem. :smileysad:

This is SO common it is not even a defect anymore..... I have the Droid Turbo and it gets a little warm while/after charging or while playing Real Racing 3 and using my GPS or any intensive game. Good luck ditching your phone and going to ANY other carrier, you'll have the same problem with a lot of smartphones out there. Just think about what using GPS or playing an intensive game does to your battery.....this is not anything new.

No problem, just hope the warranty covers overheating, whether just sitting outside or using Google maps or even Verizon Navigator.

We do not want you to have to worry about an overheating device anymore. As long as your device does not have any physical or water damage it will be covered under the warranty policy. Did you have a chance to go by the VZW store location to have them inspect the device yet?

Yes I did. Of course, in ac :smileyhappy:, it didn't overheat. They checked it over. Told me just to keep an eye on it. So will do that. The hottest it has been so far is 124.8. Then brought it inside in the ac and it went down rather quickly.

I am having the same issue with my phone overheating after I use it for ANY REASON for a few minutes. It seems to be getting worse. My last phone wasa Droid Ultra and I never had this problem. I've only had this phone for a few months and I'm not happy. I have a CPU cooler app that I have to use repeatedly. Should I try exchanging this phone for a different one??

this phone is ridiculous. It heats up in like 5 minutes of use. I am ditching it and going back to the maxx. only reason I switched out is because my maxx had taken a big fall and the screen cracked, and the leftmost button no longer worked...

How they could release a phone that overheats like this is fucking mind boggling.

I am so sorry to hear you are having issues with your device overheating. We do not want you to have to worry about your device getting hot after such a low amount of usage. Do you notice if your phone still overheats when you place it in Safe Mode? http://vz.to/1yAh4vr

We understand the importance of having a phone that does not overheat. When did you begin to experience the issues with your Turbo overheating? If you go into Settings>Apps>Running how much RAM is showing free?

They did tell me "overheating damage" is covered under the warranty. So, me, if it overheats and gets damaged will just keep turning them in. I never had a phone run so hot. If it's 30 degrees outside the phone temp runs around 80. If it's 80 out phone temp (not using) runs around 110. So figure, let it overheat. Next phone going back to Samsung. Seems since Lenovo bought Motorola everything went to h*ll. A shame, just like no updates.

Ditto. Overheating may be :normal: with Motorola phones, but My Samsungs never got as hot as this phone...no matter what I was doing.

Yes my phone still overheats. I have had it for about a month now, I have deleted all unnecessary apps. I was going to exchange it for a Droid Maxx, but I noticed that I only had 14 days for an exchange. So disappointed in this phone :smileysad:

The 805 chipset inside of a lot of the top end phones last year can get warm. The device manufactuer decides when the chipset begins to throttle the speed down to prevent overheating. Sadly, the 810 showing up in flagship this year have an even worse problem with heating. It' the reason the LG G4 went with the 808 and the S6 went with theit own exynos chip. It will probably be better when the snapdragon 820 comes out, but who knows.
