Ok so here's the deal: The phone get's "throttled" every 24 hour's or so. This time it happened at 16 hours uptime. Software has nothing to do with the issue or at lest Software I can remove. ( 3rd party app's are not the issue)

I on my 2nd phone, 2nd sim and now my 2nd ticket. Still I have this issue. I am uploading a video with a vs to show how bad this is. ( It's not the best video and I will try and make a better one if needed.)

Are there any advanced settings that I should know about to try and fix this? I tryed CDMA/LTE mode, airplane on/off, data enabled, wifi on/off, safe mode and more.

The only "fix" to reboot in a good signal area. (3-5 bars or 86dbm or less).

Video: ( this is old, but I uploading a new one and can make new ones if needed)

My past data use is like this:

30GB,89GB,57GB,37GB and now 7.5GB.

I have all ways had data issues with this phone, but I did not have this issue intill February.

I have been on the phone with tech about 10 times with 3 of them being "advanced".

I really just want the 4G to work right and now see why they removed the most reliable part off there site.

Edit: One more note: It was fine intill I hit 7.5GB and used a fair amount of data today.( This is why I think I may being throttled)

Update: still having some issue's not like before, but still a pain. I am thinking of replacing the phone my self, becuase verizon won't and I don't want to call 10 more times for a 3rd bad "new" phone. I think a galaxy s3 would be a good idea, yes or no? What should I do.

Thanks

When you say "throttled", what is your Download/Upload rate?

Download speeds of about 600kbs. Upload is mostly fine at 1.5mbs to 11mbs.

Have you looked at "My Verizon" online - or the Verizon App on your phone - to determine how much data usage you have incurred? Are you on an Unlimited Plan or the 2GB or 4Gb plan ?  I think you should just call Customer Service and discuss this with them.  Especially if you've confirmed that you're on the 4G network (you have, right?) Another thought - not sure what your WiFi speed is at home, but what kind of download speed to you get over THAT ???

edit : I see that you did in fact see how much data you used ... sorry ...  I needed to re-read the thread.

My wifi at home is slow. Well I should say TWC is slow. I am on the unlimited plan. I have call CS 4 times about getting "throttled" and they tell me they don't do that. I would love to take there word for it, but when I see a sprint 3g phone get better or = speed, it's hard not to think that.

I could upload a 5 min video showing wifi/3g/4g speeds that I made. If it will help any

Indeed a strange issue then ...  IMHO, you SHOULD be getting what they publish for 4G (or 3G).  I also run a speed tester -  "4G TEST" , free in market. I consistently get 13-15mbps download, 8-9mbps uplink speeds ... There is another factor in this: the Latency ... mine shows about 99ms Latency using that tester..  I would think Latency would have a bearing on your overall speed(s) .. what is yours showing?

So, what to do? hmm ...  Is this under warranty? Maybe take to a Verizon store and stand on their desk -- show them the problem. If under warranty, I would think it'd be replaced -- but probably not with a brand new one.

I'm out of wisdom on this issue ... good luck in whatever happens ... would be curious to know the final outcome though.  Maybe a Factory Reset is due .. (but don't allow your Apps to auto-reinstall!)  After all, it is probably what Verizon will do if you take it into the store.

Just download the app and ran a speed test:

Average downlink speed: 631.83kbs

Average uplink speed: 2394.13kbs

Latency:87.5ms

This is my 2nd phone with the same issue and I have showed 4-5 store guys this issue. They all said it must be a 3rd party app. ( One said I was being throttled and to call to ask for more info.) So they fac reset the phone and it was fine. I took it home and before I could even install one app, 600kbs hit me. I am sure I likely need a new phone, but I have called and asked 3 times and they won't give me a new one.

This is crazy ... sorry you're going through this, but assuming you ARE getting a 4G signal, and using that as your data transport, I have to agree - looks like you're being throttled ...

It has to be 4G, becuase wifi is off and the upload speeds are way too high for 3G.

I know it's crazy, becuase I have seen the data droping issues and all that stuff with verizon 4G, but not this issue. Thats why I asked here or else I would have likely been able to fix it by now.

I have gotten speeds that slow on 4G and I never hit more than 7 GB in my billing cycle. The same location can get higher speeds on a different day. I don't think that I am throttled, instead I think there is a connection issue. I am connected to a different tower or the the tower itself has a lot of data transfer through it.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

It get's that same speed over and over. I can go to any tower I like and get the same. I can't get higher speeds with out rebooting the phone and that only works if I am in a good siganl area. (Only to happen again in about 24 hours)

Yea, that's the other strange part of this ... it seems to fix itself after a reboot for a period of time.

Another free app that might add more info for you :  OpenSignal  >  launch it, click on the "Cells" Tab, then click on any of the entries for details of that "communication session" - which includes LTE, Tower, signal strength ... etc ..  maybe some of that will help the Verizon peeps.

Anyway, I'd do the F.R. without installing any apps and try to run like that for a few days ..  best of luck

I will do a F.R now and come back with what happens. I think this may work, but I think there is more to this.

That is the strange part that has really made trying to get this fixed harder.

Just make sure you don't have the auto-reinsall of your 3rd partys apps enabled ... It's in the PRIVACY  settings .. "Automatic Restore" - DISABLE it before  the  FR.

Just did a F.R and did not install any of my apps back. I will do this for a few days and see what happens.

My speeds have come back, but for how long is the ?

That's the part no making sense .. I mean, really, if they ARE throttling you, you would think it would be a constant thing. I'd be very cognizant of ANY and ALL settings changes or Apps you install to try to get a handle on when it breaks.  good luck ...  stay in touch.

I know it does not make sense and it drives me mad. It is a Constant thing intill reboot, then about 24 hours later-Throttled. Higher Data use seem's to being it on faster up to a point. Tower hopping seem's to be a big triger. But It can happen really at any time, From being in a moving car( Not driving) to being at home at 1AM doing a quick news check.( I don't do this alot, but it had been about up for 27 hours and wanted to see if a web page would do it in and it did.)

One more note: Are both USB and hotsopt tethering on the hotspot plan or is USB tethering with the base unlimited plan?

I don't really tether now with my razr, but if I needed/wanted to I would like to know.

Thanks

Tethering of any sort is $20 per month more and requires a separate data plan. This is not part of this issue is it?

It could be part of the issue, becuase I can USB tether with out the plan or any app. I stopped doing it last month to see if it was and I got my home internet fixed.

It's allway's been that way and my bud who sold me the phone was shocked that right out of the box it could USB tether with out the  hotspot plan, but told me that it should be ok. He said that it was likely becuase it was a 4G phone and the plan was not 100% the same.( He had a 3G phone at the time and was new to working at verizon.) When I got the phone USB worked, but hotspot did not so I assumed that it must be part of the $30 base plan.

I could make a video of this if you like.

Ok. Not sure, but if you did some illegal tethering via USB they may have caught you and flagged your plan. Just a thought. I've read in other forums of the penalty of such a thing happening. Without a paid plan I believe its considered a hack and thus a violation of tos. Let's Hope not. PS, and Anne spelled out the right fees involved.
