Help! My Razr won't turn back on.

I just got my Razr less than a month ago and so far I've loved it more than hated it. This morning it had a full charge and worked fine. Now, all of a sudden it seems to have shut down and will not turn back on. I've tried holding down the power button but the screen will not light up at all. I've had it plugged into a charger for about an hour thinking maybe the battery did die and I just hadn't noticed. That hasn't helped at all. It's totally crapped out on me. Has this happend to anyone else? Does anyone know what I can do? I have insurance on it, but it's not even a month old. I feel like it would be a bit ridiculous to have to get a new one already.

Have you tried a reboot? Press and hold the power key + volume down key for 10 seconds to perform a force reboot on the device. (Data on your phone will not be deleted.)

Yes, I looked that up and tried that. It won't work either. Still just a blank, dead screen.

I would leave it on the charger for an hour just to be sure it's got power and try that again. But if that doesn't work, then I'm afraid you'll have to bring it back. I don't know much about the insurance program, but I would think this would be a simple warranty issue. It's not like you dropped it and cracked the screen. This sounds like a manufacturer covered event (pg. 62 of manual):
Motorola Mobility Inc. or its subsidiaries' warranty obligations are limited to the terms and
conditions set forth herein. Subject to the exclusions contained below, Motorola Mobility Inc
or its subsidiaries (“Motorola”) warrant this Mobile Phone, and any in-box accessories which
accompany such Mobile Phone (“Product”) against defects in materials and workmanship,
under normal consumer use, for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of retail purchase by
the original end-user purchaser, or the period of time required by the laws of the country
where the Product is purchased, whichever is longer (“Warranty Period”).
Let us know how it works out.

Our Razr is only 2 weeks young. Again thank you very much.

The white light is talked about in the Motorola FAQ below and means it's probably in protective mode. There's a couple of things you can try. A higher powered charger such as a car adapter (typically 1,000mAh), or an iPad adapter (typically 2,100mAh - 2.1A), may work.
If you do get it charging, charge it up to 100%, then discharge it until the low battery light (around 15%) comes on. Turn it off (so you're not getting a parasitic charge), charge it again to 100%. Repeat this 3 times. It will calibrate your monitor. Part of the reason you ended up with such a low battery might have been that the battery monitor (not the battery)was not calibrated. I would do this battery monitor calibration every 2-3 months.
Good luck.
Motorola FAQ:
Note: The LED light does not turn on when charging.
- When charging, your battery charge indicator will be located near the time in the notification bar when the device is turned on, and will be in the middle of the screen of the device when it is turned off. (You may need to press the power button to turn on or activate the screen).
- You will get a Battery Low warning on the screen and a blinking Red LED light notification once your battery level is at or below 5%. If you plug a working charger into the device and start charging, the blinking red LED light will go away.
- The LED light is used only for Notifications, and does not come on when you connect the charger.
- The white LED light may turn on when charging using a USB cable when the phone does not have enough power to turn on. Once the display have enough power to turn on, the white LED light will turn off and you will see a batterycharge indicator on the screen as mentioned above.
The charging system on your phone is comprised of four key components; the phone, the non-removable battery, the charger and proper use. A failure in any one of these systems can result in the phone not charging. If you are having trouble charging, please follow the proces below:This product uses a non-removable battery. The battery should only be replaced by a Motorola-approved service facility. Any attempt to remove or replace your battery may damage the product.New batteries are not fully charged. Plug the battery charger into your phone and an electrical outlet. Your phone might take several seconds to start charging the battery.
Inspect your Charger
- Unplug the charger from the phone and the wall.
- Ensure charger is Motorola branded original accessories. It is critical to use only original Motorola parts in order to achieve maximum performance.
- Inspect the charger. Ensure it is not open, wet, crushed, bent, deformed or punctured. If you see any damage, properly dispose of the battery or charger and replace with a new Motorola original battery.
Tips:
- It may take several charging cycles for your battery to reach optimum performance.
- If your device is completely discharged, it may take several minutes for the device to begin charging.
- Ensure you are using a Motorola specific charger. Other chargers might take longer to charge your battery, or cause your calls to fail during charging.
- During initial set up of your Google and social networking account, your phone's battery may drain faster than usual due to the amount of data transferred. After the initial sync, and a few charging cycles, your battery will reach its maximum capacity. We strongly recommend to keep the phone attached to the charger during the initial sync.
- We suggest charging each night so you start the day fully charged and ready to go!

Thanks B33. I'm just trying to pass on what I've learned. A real good place to learn about smartphone batteries is in this thread. There's a lot of very knowledgeable folks there like FoxKat who's taught be everything I know - about batteries that is.

Sally, I can see you've already had tons of people that have thanked you for your advice but wanted to add my 2 cents in as well. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me. The first time was about 3 - 4 weeks ago and I was in a serious panic as I had an important conference call that I was supposed to be on with all the information to be coming through my phone.
After spending 30 fruitless minutes on the phone with Verizon tech support, they told me that if I couldn't get the phone to turn on (not mentioning anything about performing a reboot), then they couldn't help me as all troubleshooting for this phone is done through the phone itself, and given the fact that removing the battery voids the warranty, I couldn't even do that to force the reboot so they overnighted me a replacement phone.
A few hours after my phone call with them, the phone spontaneously rebooted itself and (until this morning) had worked great with no serious issues. I have spent quite a bit of time & effort in customizing/downloading my apps, setting up folders, adding wallpaper etc, etc & was less than thrilled with the idea of having to do that all again so, when the phone started working again I decided to simply return the replacement handset and kept my original phone.
This time I was a little bit wiser and figured I couldn't be the only person on the planet that's had this issue. I turned to my best friend Google and found your thread! I tried your suggestion and it worked like a charm so again, thank you SO, SO, SO MUCH!
Since this has happend to me twice now, I wanted to make a couple of observations that may (or may not) be related, maybe others can contribute as well and see if they've noticed these as possibly being contributing factors when having this particular issue?
1) My phone underwent a software update last night and, I believe it underwent a software update the night before the last time I couldn't get the display to turn on as well.
2) When up & moving around I tend to keep my phone in my bra which means it's usually fairly warm to start with and, again, both this time & last, I finished a relatively long phone call by cell phone standards (about 10 - 15 minutes long) right before the issue occurred &, with phone in general and the screen in particular both being very, very, warm. Hot to the touch even. Not hot enough to burn, but, definitely hot.
Those are the two items that stood out to me as being present both time this has happened.
Out of curiosity, have you (or anyone else that might read this post) heard anything about this from Verizon about this being a known issue and whether there's something we can do outside of the reboot to perhaps keep this from happening again in the future?
Any input that anyone is able to offer on this is (of course) greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Glad you got it working again, Jen. I'm not sure why it did what it did - these phones can be a mystery sometimes. It's possible that it's related to the software update, or maybe a low battery. If the battery gets too low - or hot - it will go into a protective shutdown, but it's anyone's guess.
Every 2-3 months I'd do the discharge/charge cycle I mentioned a few posts back just to be sure your battery monitor is accurate. If you have the new ICS update (the 4.0.4 B33 mentioned) it has a better battery display, but I still prefer a battery indicator that shows me in 1% increments in my notification bar. You can find them in the Play store.
Thanks for posting - it's nice to hear when things work out!
