Sounds like a problem with your laptop. Have you tried to tether it? Does it do the same thing?

Hotspot shouldn't cause blue screen as it is only a means of transferring data and isn't running any type of program on your laptop. Sounds like you may have another program installed causing your BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death), or you may need to run a virus scan....too many possibilities here to really pin point what the issue is there, good luck!

I also have a Droid RAZR MAXX HD and just started having the same problem. I'm looking into it and will let you know if I find a way to fix it! Smiley Happy I never had this problem before and have been able to use the hot-spot w.o any problems on my laptop until just recently. From what little info I've found so far, it could have to do with the computer's memory or drivers that need to be updated.

I am having this same problem. I get BSOD within a few minutes of connecting via Mobile Hotspot to my Droid RAZR MAXX HD. This is a major problem as I travel frequently and need to be able to have wireless access on my laptop without worrying about searching around for a wi-fi hotspot.

I was sitting the airport the other day trying to finish a report for work, and my laptop kept crashing on me causing me to lose work. I finally figured out today when I was connecting via the phone while waiting to have a repair done on my car that the Droid was the common denominator. I was about ready to chuck the laptop out the window, but now I know it's the phone.

Verizon, please fix this!!

Well, I managed to fix this. My work laptop is an HP 8460p EliteBook. It has an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless network adaptor. At some point in December I accepted one of those Windows Update suggestions to update to a newer driver directly from Intel. I went to the HP support site tonight, and I saw that the driver it recommended was a different version than the one Microsoft had recommended. I rolled back to the driver from HP, and now all is well. I'm connected via my RAZR MAXX HD right now, and I've have no problems with system crashing, aka BSOD. This machine would have crashed within seconds after connecting to mobile hotspot before I corrected the driver.

EDIT:
I just kept rolling back the driver until I got to 15.2.0.19 and it worked.

Thanks everyone!

I'm having the same issue with the same wireless card in my work laptop.
Can you tell me which driver version now works for you?  I don't see any updates, so I might be on the latest right now (15.3.1.2).

The hotspot worked on my previous laptop, but I just got this replacement and the BSOD appears every time that I try using my Droid Incredible 4G.

Thanks!

Yep, that's the same one that worked for me! For some reason the "Roll Back Driver" button wasn't an option when I had the Intel driver installed, so I had to get mine from the HP Support website. Anyway, glad to know that you solved your problem as well.

I had the same problem up until this morning and I found the answer on another post. On the laptop go into the wireless network properties for the network (Droid Razr Maxx or whatever you called the Network SSID when you set it up on your phone). On the Security tab click on the Advanced settings. On the 802.11 settings window be sure to turn on Enable Federal Information Processing Standars (FIPS) compliance for this network. After I restarted the wi-fi connection I have not had a blue screen since.

Known problem with Intel wireless cards, I just went through this crap myself. Go into your wireless network profile on your PC and edit the hotspot network. Under advanced settings, enable FIPS mode. Problem solved.

Help, I have done both things suggested here and still have the problem.

I have a thinkpad W530 running on XP with an intel centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless card. I have a RAZR Maxx HD with Android version 4.1.2

1.  I've enabled FIPS mode and rebooted - still BSOD!  I get a netwxn00.sys reason for the fault and no luck finding out what this is.

2.  I've updated my network adapter driver to 15.3.1.2 - still BSOD.

I tried 15.2.0.19 and - still BSOD. (both versions with FIPS enabled and disabled)

Oh yeah, I do NOT have this problem tethering to an iPhone.  (yes, it wrenches my gut just mentioning that).

I'm out of options, please help.
