How can I get my navigation back?

I somehow lost my navigation program. The icon was still there but when I hit it, it says app not installed. I thought about using MAPS from the Play Store but I can't trust a navigation app that needs to make unwanted and unanounced phone calls. Why does a navigation app need to make phone calls? Does anybody know how I could restore my old navigation app? I'm still looking to find out how to get Backup assistant plus to possibly restore it. Any have any ideas? Thanks for reading and your time.

Betty12 - Were you able to recover your navigation application? The guaranteed way to recover it is by performing a master reset, after you've backed up your data.

Google Maps is a good application and is one that comes pre-installed in your phone. There may be many reasons that it may need the phone permissions. It may be needed in order to allow access to make calls to local businesses that you may find via searches done through the app. You may want to ask the developers for a more definitive answer though!
