How do I take a screenshot on my Android Maxx 2?

I want to take a screenshot on my Maxx 2. The Verizon website says to hold down the volume down and power buttons at the same time, but nothing happens.  If I hold the buttons down for a few seconds, my phone shuts down. So how do I take a screenshot?

Capture a Screenshot - DROID MAXX 2 by motorola. To capture a screenshot, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time. To view the screenshot you've taken, navigate: Apps > Photos > Screenshots from a Home screen.
