How to get 4G to work (when I don't have WiFi access)?

OK, I just got my Droid Raxr Maxx yesterday, and so far, I love it. However, now that I'm out of my house and away from a WiFi connection, I am unable to use the browser, check Facebook, shop Google Play, etc. because it tells me I have no internet connection. Any suggestions? I assumed the 4G would take over whenever a WiFi connection wasn't available, but that doesn't seem to be happening. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you're data connection is coming on, try using something like Data Enabler Widget to toggle it.  Some time it just needs a little help. Smiley Happy

@sally - does that toggle off WiFi ?  Maybe I stand corrected, but it was always my understanding that WiFi needed to be off for the 4G data support as I mentioned in my previous post. That's the way the Droid X worked ...  is there something in the Razr that allows for BOTH at the same time?

haha we must have both been posting at the same time, Cody21. Smiley Happy  I have my wifi and data both on all the time. If I'm on a wifi network, the data is not working.  If I move out of the wifi range, the data kicks in. You don't need to manually turn off wifi for data to kick on.

Ah, I see what you're saying .. makes sense .. .I just never did it that way - I always toggle WiFi OFF when not in use, mainly to save battery. I believe leaving it turned ON (Much like GPS) just puts undue stress on the battery life as it "searches" for signals, etc. ....   YMMV  ...  thanks.

Yeah, I guess everyone has their own approach.  I leave my wifi on, but in my wifi settings I don't have checked to notify me when an Open Network is available. That's because I use Juice Defender to manage my wifi settings and it knows the three wifi networks I connect to.

I have JD set so if I'm by one of those three, it connects and stay connected, even if my screen is off.  Otherwise, I'm on data and if my screen is off it only connects every 15 minutes to check for email, etc.  This seems to work well for my battery as I routinely go all day (5am-9pm) on one charge.

You need to turn OFF your WiFi on the phone ...  You can't have both WiFi & the 4G/3G Data working at the same time. It;s one or the other.

If he's away from wifi, he shouldn't have to turn it off. Data should come on automatically.

I know you haven't had your phone long but here's one feature that is neat to have an i got on my Maxx an it Deals with Wi-Fi an the NetWork  i will Show how to set this Up: The Video below shows how to set up smart Action in General...

  1. To start this go to the Smart Actions App in your app draw:  tap to go in while there on the main page tap the Green + sign to start you will have 3 choices go with ( Start from Scratch )
  2. You will then see Triggers an Actions Tap the + for the triggers Select Wi-Fi Connection then you will need to select your Wi-Fi say for example bigbluesky11 once selected you will need to tap it to Enable it. While still on this screen you will see a white box above triggers With New Rule an a bar flashing Tap the Box an put {Home} that's what i put for mine
  3. Next you need to set up an Action to do that you tap the + for the Action Select Cellular Data once you select that It will pop up asking to Enable or to Disable Select Disable!
  4. Once you are done with setting up these Settings down on the bottom of the phone are  {Add Rule}  or  {Cancel}  Choose Add Rule an your Set is complete.

What does this do you ask it shuts off the Cellular Radio automatically when your home an when leave home an your out of range of the Wi-Fi the Cellular radio kicks back on Automatically. You don't have to mess with turning it on an off all of the Time

Smart Actions work really well you just got figure How you want to set them Up an an what turns off what an When. Like when i want to Listen to my Ear Phones when i plug them in it automatically kicks on my selection witch is Winamp an all need to do is tap the station i have selected to play my Music. I hope this helps ya out an Question please ask at this Post. b33
