I personally love it.
I don't (edited content to comply with ) or do a lot of app downloading though. I do have some apps for the banking and keeping up with my pool chemicals but, for the most part pretty much stock out of the box.
I use the HD dock to charge and make the phone into my nightstand clock and I have the car dock as well - disable VZ Navigator it's trash you have to pay to use. The Lapdock 100 is fun to fiddle with and turns the phone into limited tablet. Webos 3.0 is pretty nice and when you hook up the HDMI to a monitor or TV, it mirrors a pretty good screen for you.
Just like any new system though you're gonna find people who resist change and are going to badmouth ICS till their dying breath. Keep in mind, the posts you see here are only a tiny fraction of the users of the phone and ICS. It's for those with problems and that's why you see so much negativity here. Not many come here to brag about how great things are.
Ice Cream Sandwhich CAN do a lot of things but remember this one thing -It's a phone. Not a tablet, not a desktop PC, not an X-Box, not a TV or movie theater, just a phone with some extra capabilities.

I agree, it has it's differences, some good, some bad, but overall I'm ok with the update.
