Just Did The ICS Update

Well, I did the update. Took about an hour from start to finish. At this point in time, I have no idea if I will run into the type of problems I've seen many write about here in the forum. We'll see soon enough in the next few hours and over the next few days. Based on my readings here, I made several pre-update preparations:
1) Made sure my battery was fully charged, then kept the charger on, not sure how long the process would take.
2) Made sure I had maximum 3G bars, which is most of the time for me, anyway.
3) Changed my Live Wallpaper back to the Razr default wallpaper.
4) Cleared phone cache according to instructions found here in the forum.
Once, I was ready to begin, I began the download, which took about 20-30 minutes. Then the install. I let the update do its thing without interefence from me. When it was complete, and I received the "update successful" message, the phone was in process of installing other app updates. So far, things look good. Widgets on the home page work fine. Texting works fine. Facebook works fine. There is still other tests to make which will be done in the course of the next few hours or so. I'll update my report here, if I can do that.
Just wanted to post a positive report as I've seen so many negative ones. I'm hopeful it will remain so.

Yes, I'm glad, too, considering the many here who've had real problems. I'm hopeful that the way I did it is what made it almost entirely problem free. So far, the only issue I've come across was that of Comcast Email and I was able to fix that easily enough and left instructions on how I did that. The only other thing I'm watching now is the battery. Tomorrow or day after will tell me more.

I updated one of my Maxx's the i haven't Yet the only issue i have encountered and Posted on here is the Issue when i Go to the Browser And do a Voice Search it Capitalizes the first Letter like the word android central is done like this Android central and when it does this it will show the result of it then 2 seconds later it removes it off the Screen and to get it to Work i either have to say the Word again or i have to wipe the Word and start over again. I done all that was required to clear, Change settings to no avail but two things that did work was when i used the Sype keyboard and when i used a third party app.! witch i use Smart Keyboard it worked As it's supposed to. I think if the search app was updated it might take care of it but i might have to F.D.R it. Too fix it..

Yeah, I've read your post on that. As I've never used the voice feature, even pre-ICS, I would have nothing to compare it too. Voice isn't that important to me....yet. Who knows? When I do decide to try it, my attitude on it could change.

Glad to see someone take their time, let others do the update, and do it as a process. OS updates are something that should not be taken lightly.
It is nice to see someone do their homework. I did mine pretty early on, but I was prepared to have to what it took to fix the phone. My wife's phone, however, I did after a week or so, AFTER I went through the process, showed her the differences, and saw what issues there were out there.

Well, it really wasn't a question of letting others do it first. The update never came to me and I only noticed it the morning I updated (yesterday), when I did a manual check out of curiosity. Until then, I've been reading this forum so I had a good idea what issues people were having and how to fix them - the cache clearance, for example. So far, everything seems to work. But, screen uses up almost twice the battery % it used to (previously was 39%, now 61%. I'm watching it. Along with the battery usage in general.

Mine screen usage is higher than before also, but it is something I can live with as I am almost 15 hours since I disconnected from the charger, and I am at 60% battery. I don't think that is too bad.. I have removed the other apps, and the crap that I don't want or need, as JakeMan1 has pointed out in his posts.

Okay, that's not so bad at all. I'm at 9 hours now and at 73%. So, it may not be too bad. One thing for certain, my previous phone (winmobile 6.5) would have needed charging already. Possibly, twice if comparing the same usage. Basically, if by 2AM this morning I'm still above 50% I'm doing very good. We'll see where I am at that time. It will tell me a lot. In any case, I have no regrets with updating to ICS.

The only issues I've notice is it's more battery intensive, and the screen uses mor battery %. Now, 61%, before was 39%. Other than that it I've not had any problems I couldn't fix (the comcast email thing was an easy fix).

where does this process start? I didn't realize what was going on and now 15 hours later I can't get into my phone and it is still downloading something. I'm locked out except for emergency calls.

You better make sure your data signal is good, it sounds like you have an iff'y signal? Also make sure your phone is plugged into the wall to charge.

+1 D.U. what D.U said is Correct you need a Very Good signal to Achieve a Good Load of the Update or if you can get a Good signal Via the Network then Switch to Wi-Fi if you have it...

Just did the update. Everything seems ok except the battery life. Prior to the update, I used to set the network to 3G to save the battery. I don't seem to be able to do that now. Anyone know how to do this?

I don't really know. Someone else might. However, it was also suggested to download a 3rd party app from Google Play called LTE ON/OFF. It says it's for HTC Thunderbolt but people say it works for Razr, too. It gives you several options to turn off 4G, turn it on, set it to auto, etc. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say how well it would work. Only that others say it's supposed to work very well. Oh, and it's a free app!

Also by default, the phone is set for global mode. You can help your battery out by setting the phone to LTE / CDMA. Go to SETTINGS | MORE | MOBILE NETWORKS | and clicking on NETWORK MODE and changing it from Gloabl to LTE / CDMA.

When you do decide to make that jump, be sure to follow the guidelines posted here by many. And, make sure you clear your cache FIRST, so you don't end up having to do it afterwards. If you don't know the steps for clearing the cache, ask and either me or somone else will copy them here for you. And, make sure you have a solid 3G or wi-fi connection and a fully charged battery. I would also NOT do it while you sleep. You want to keep an eye on it the process (do not interupt it) just in case. It should go smoothly without concern. Finally, if you use Comcast email, follow what I suggested earlier on or in Comcast post.

I have had ICS for about a month or so now. It has been working good for me with only a couple of minor issues that I can live with. Pretty much follow the advice here and it should work for you. Also be aware that many of your apps will need to update because you are now in ICS. Also some of your settings will change and you may want to adjust so it will work for you. I also found my battery usage went up at first but as my battery settled back into its normal routine it has now gotten as good if not better (I can usually get about 50%+ on moderate usage after about 16+ hours running). It does take some getting used to as the UI changes and the feel is different.

So far, it's been pretty good. There's some things that changed that I wish hadn't changed, such as the ability to change keyboard type from the texting box but now have to go into system settings/keyboard to change it. Definitely not as convenient for me as I like to switch out keyboards on occassion and usually while texting or writing email. New lock screen doesn't bother me at all even though you can't make changes to it from what I've read here.
You get about 50% on 16+ hours? Damn, that's good! I'm usually down to 40-45% at about 14-15 hours. I'm still bothered by a 59-72% screen on battery, however. I'm still observing it and will for probably the next week. I've already changed the "global" setting to "LTE/CDMA" as one person suggested and got rid of a couple of games and movie sources I have no use for.
