Messenger app replacing a letter automatically

When I type in a text thru the Messenger app it automatically changes the letter without me doing so. For instance...I commonly used the letter "U" as a shorthand for "You" like alot of people do. When I type the letter "U" and hit the space button it automatically turns it into and "I". If I do not catch this it leads to very confusing and somewhat opposite text messages from what I originally meant. How do I delete the "I" from being an automatic substitute for the "U". They are right next to each other on the keyboard so fat fingers issue is enuf to deal with already.

Are you referring to the Facebook Messenger app, the Verizon Message+ app or some other messaging app?

Thanks for clarifying. If this issue is occurring with all messaging apps on your phone, this generally indicates that the issue is due to a setting on the phone itself. Have you made any recent changes to your phone? Have you checked your keyboard settings?

knjwells It sounds like the auto correct is on, that can be helpful and annoying at the same time. What is the make/model of your device? DoloresK_VZW

Knjwells, we certainly don't want you to have confusing messages. I want to ensure we are on the same page. What messenger app are you using?

Thank you, Knjwells. Is this happening with any other applications where you type? Which keyboard do you use on your device?

Suspicious as it happens with other apps. Is there an option to provide feedback to the Google Gboard app developers?

Thanks for sharing these details with us. Keyboard functions can build a database for words you like to use. This can be reset within the options itself. Have you tried resetting the Goggle keyboard to clear the saved words? BobbyN_VZW

Ok. Let us know if that helps. To access this menu, you would navigate into Settings > System > Languages & Input > Virtual Keyboard. You should see GBoard there. Select that, then you can either try changing some of the settings like Text Correction or Preferences to see if those minor adjustments will work. You can also delete your phone's learned words under Dictionary. You can do this all at once, or just specific words. Let us know if this helps!
