Moto Z Droid Battery Issue

I have a Moto Z phone that worked great up until a couple of months ago when all of a sudden the battery started draining at an alarming pace. Also it sometimes just shuts off and it locks up frequently. My husband got his Moto Z at the same time and his is not acting up at all leaving me to believe it is something wrong with my particular phone. Also it is intermittent as to how fast it drains and appears to be random when it chooses to shut down... sometimes when it reads as much as 50% battery left. Help! I just got this phone paid off and should not need another $750 phone so soon.

I am very sorry to hear about the battery draining and powering off issues you are experiencing on your Moto Z phone, ROCK7X7. I will be more than happy to go through some steps to make sure that we get down to the bottom of this to ensure that the battery of your phone is behaving correctly. Do you happen to have a Moto Z Force, Moto Z2 Force, or Moto Z Play device? Can you please describe how the battery of your device used to drain in comparison to how it is now? Did you do anything different or out of the ordinary with your device such as downloading a new application for example prior to this happening?

Moto Z Force. It used to take over a day to drain. I removed all the programs added plus some since it started acting up. I did the battery reset twice but that didn't help.

We appreciate those details ROCK7X7 and want to ensure we continue working towards a solution. Can you tell us about how long the battery is lasting after it is fully charged? Are you using the original charger that came with the phone or a different charger that you purchased? Does the device have any physical/liquid damage at all?

Why don't you stop with the stupid questions designed to imply that the customer is not using their phone right and they can fix the phone by changing normal use or just loosing all their information on a pointless reset.  Many people are having the same issue! All these people have been using phones for years! THAT MEANS IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE dang PHONE! GOT IT? STOP TELLING PEOPLE HOW fudging STMPATHETIC YOU ARE AND GET SOMEONE WITH SOME ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE TO HELP.

No water damage at all... and it lasts less then 2 hours on a full charge. I am using the same type charger that it came with- the Motorola Turbo. The original died so I had to replace it but I did so with an original Motorola brand Turbo charger. My husband has the same phone, bought on the same day and it isn't doing this. I still have not seen any fix and I am starting to believe my phone may have the same issues as the iPhones that were recently discovered to have time limited batteries installed. That will not make us happy.

Thanks for confirming. I would be just as shocked to know that my battery is draining at an alarming rate. I am eager for you to be met with a long lasting resolution. I can see why you would not be ecstatic to find out about the limited time battery. However, this finding would be quite unusual seeing that your husband is not being impacted. Please make sure your software is up to date: http://spr.ly/6584Eux4k

What apps have you downloaded around the time your device started to drain the battery? I ask because certain third-party apps can cause battery drainage. Please test this out by using Safe Mode. All third-party apps will be paused, so please continue using your device as is and let me know of the battery activity. http://spr.ly/6585Eux4Z

No worries, ROCK7X7. I can definitely clarify some details. To place your device into 'Safe Mode', follow the steps in the link below:
http://spr.ly/6589ERDF5
As for how long to leave your device in 'Safe Mode', I recommend ensuring that your device is fully charged and leaving 'Safe Mode' enabled for 20 minutes and see if you notice the dramatic change. Does this make sense?

So following this thread because it so hits the issue in the head.  I am so interested in the solution.  Disappointed by Verizon responses.  No new apps added.  No particular pattern (might not even be able to finish this post.). System updated, followed recommended steps.  I switched from Samsung based on Verizon representative suggestion.  The only thing that has changed before my battery  problem started is I paid the phone off.  Please share the fix, and it should not include buying a new phone.

Following. Have been having the same issue exactly as described in this thread. It started late February/early March.

My husband is having the exact same problem with his Moto Z Droid. He doesn't have a bunch of apps and mostly just talks and texts on his. Battery dies in very short time and he has no phone. We also got it paid off not long ago and why should a person have to buy a new phone every couple of years when they cost so darned much money? And once you buy the phone, their value is gone almost immediately! I've been following this thread hoping to find a solution. We know how that's going. Very poor customer service!

Hello, okiearkie. We are still here to help and we definitely want to assist with making sure that your husband's Moto Z Droid's battery is working correctly. How long has this been happening? How long would you say that it takes for the device to go from 100% charged to 0% charged? BrettA_VZW

My husband and I bought identical Moto Z droids. His began having the "gosh, I'm suddenly dying..." battery issue first. Now, mine's having it. He replaced his. Now, I'm in the same boat. It randomly just... dies. Initially, it was when the battery was getting low. Now, if I have it on and do anything with it at all beyond just calling someone (and even that is iffy), it dies. We went to the movies and - this is a true story - we couldn't get the thing to turn OFF - and I told my husband to send a text. That did it. It died. It was at about 87 or something % charge.

Having battery issues certainly puts a damper on having a computer in your pocket, and we're going to get to the bottom of this. Is the phone dying even while at a full charge? Does it have any issues with functionality while plugged in? StanleyC_VZW
