Moto Z3 low volume

On April 24, 2020 there was a software update to my Moto Z3. Since then all of my audio isn't working properly. All of the volume settings for Media, Call, Ring and Alarm are at the maximum but I can't hear phone calls or voices, speakerphone is horrible, can't hear anything. Even notifications and alarms are too low to hear.

Is this a broken phone issue or an update bug? If I file and claim and pay my deductible will it just happen again?

Please, if there is any way to fix this please do so quickly. Talking on the phone and video calling is the only contact I have with family and friends. Please help!

It is important that you are able to hear your device, Sarah1570. Is this also happening if you use headphones or a headset?

October 2020

This is not happening with my headphones.  I cant hear my ringtones and my speaker is not working properly. My phone started acting up after the most recent update

I rely on my phone to work well at all times and want to ensure you can rely on your phone, Yulawnder. Let's take a closer look into this. Has there been any damage to your device? When was the update completed? Since the update, have you powered the device off and made sure all apps are up to date?

Was there ever a solution for this? I've had the same issue as well, no damage, and my phone is extremely quiet. I have a hearing loss in both ears, so this makes it even harder for me. Speakerphone is so quiet, I generally hold up to my ear like I'm not on speakerphone. YouTube videos...just tried playing one and it was so quiet, we switched to my boyfriend's phone, Moto Z4, which played the same video 5x louder.

Also, I know my hearing loss isn't the issue...this phone has gotten dramatically quieter. I used to be able to play music with my phone in my pocket and could easily hear it. Now, I can barely hear it.

Same for me. Except I just so happen to have a moto z3 not on any cell network and it works just the same as before. Though my Verizon one is making the same issues. Quit speaker. Hardly audible. Ithink Verizon or moto is purposefully breaking these phones as Iphone did.

@Quincy3iii @That's exactly what I just started thinking. It reminds me of needing to replace my children's iPhones every 2 years because they'd start breaking down right before a new version was due to come out

Thank you for reaching out to us today. To clarify, are you sure the speaker is clear of any debris?

Yes, I'm sure that there is no debris. This is so frustrating. There are times when the volume is so low that I just give up on trying to watch a video or that I'm pressing my phone into my ear as if that's going to help me hear it better.

Editing to add: the volume for alarms is also so quiet anymore that it doesn't even wake me up anymore. I have 5 alarms set and I sleep through them all generally. My boyfriend's Moto Z4 is the one that ends up waking me up. All volume settings are set at max volume in the settings too.

Same problem. I can no longer hear my phone ring, all alerts are barely discernable. I only know my phone is ringing if it's connected to a bluetooth speaker, or I hear it vibrating. I don't see any solutions posted on this thread though?  What do we do from here?

I agree with @Beingpunked and starting to feel like they don't want us to have a solution for this. I received a PM from @vzw_customer_support on 5/9 asking me to reply when I'm ready to talk about the issue, so I did right away. Didn't hear back, so I followed up on 5/11. Still have yet to hear back from them. We were just trying to use my phone for nav, and with the volume up the whole way, no radio on, we could still barely hear the Google Maps voice. I wish there was a successor for the Moto Z line even though my Moto Z3 works perfectly fine with the exception of this speaker issue. Agree with you @joeyz00 - I don't even wake up to my alarms anymore even though the alarm volume is up the whole way. Speaker phone I have to hold up to my ear like it's not on speaker. It's annoying.

joeyz00,  I depend on my phone daily, so not hearing notifications is very alarming. I will be more than happy to assist. Please share with me what software is currently running on the device? Also, confirm for me what happens when you use the device in safe mode? https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-219230/

Was this ever resolved? Or does customer service just try to sell you a new phone after you private message them? Yes my speaker is free of debris. Yes I have the latest software. Yes I ran it in safe mode and it's the same. I've about had it with Verizon and if I have to get a new phone so I can hear my calls without putting it on speaker, I'm going with a different carrier.

@Ardenmare nope! They just don't even respond once you private message them. I used to be able to have my phone in my pocket with music playing and hear it clear as day while riding my horse. I can no longer do that. I have to put my phone calls on speaker and then hold the phone up to my ear like it's not on speaker, just to hear. It's ridiculous.

Ardenmare,

We want you to have a phone you can fully count on, not have to worry about getting a new one. We're always glad to help find a solution. Can you provide some more details about the volume issues you're having? When did they start?
