Motorola Droid Razr M not receiving all text messages

The past few weeks I've been missing some text messages, from friends on other networks, as well as with Verizon, and even with my kids' phones that are on my own plan. I have cleared the cache and data from my text messaging app, as well as done a factory reset. I called customer service and they said that because I had a call forwarding on, that may be the issue, so they removed it, I powered down and restarted and still the same issue with people telling me they responded or sent a text, which i've never received. The customer service rep sent me a text yesterday, and I did eventually receive it, but it was about 11 hours later. Today, I already have people telling me that they responded to something I sent or asking why I didn't respond to something they sent to me. This is extremely frustrating, especially because it causes communication issues, when it's a form that I heavily rely on. I had never had the issue before the past few weeks and I am using the standard pre installed messaging app. Now what?

It sounds like you've already done quite a bit of troubleshooting about incoming text messages sarahaswift. I'm really sorry it hasn't been resolved yet. Let's figure this out!

Do you notice any pattern when you're not getting messages? Is the phone maybe on WiFi? Possibly long threads of texts from certain contacts? Please try deleting all threads first. Then try going to Apps> Settings> Apps> All Apps> Messaging> Clear Data. Then remove SIM card & power off for 30 seconds and restart. Let's see if this helps.

I spent a long while on the phone with support. Nothing worked. In the end I just completely wiped the phone. That was about a month and a half ago. Then the past two days I found out that I'm missing some text messages from people. Picture, text. Verizon, ATT. And I just received the new software update last week or so. I am beyond frustrated, yet again. I don't want to have to keep wiping my phone and having to reinstall and customize everything again, especially just to have to do it all again in a month or two.

Sara have seen that there is a New Update out for the "M" have you checked in the About phone section and then System Updates to see if your phone has Gotten it or if the Update is ready for it (( here's the Update Razr M Update 98.16.3 To be out Soon! Good Luck :smileyhappy: b33

Thanks for the update Sarah. I see that you have done quite a bit of troubleshooting and we certainly don't want you to have to reset your phone multiple times. I want to ensure that no applications are causing these issues, especially if it seemed to work after the reset. If you have any 3rd party SMS apps, task killers, or antivirus apps, please uninstall. If none of these are on the phone and still having issues, the phone may need to be replaced thru warranty. We can further review your account to verify the messages are making it to our system. I have recently had the same issue with my Droid HD i got a month ago. I can send messages find to everyone but don't always receive all of them back. It has ben a problem with wife and daughters all on my verizon account. Not sure if it is happening with others. I just uninstalled many apps so will see what happens. Between this and other issues with droid platform having regrets not going with iphone even though i have had 3 previous Motorola products. It seems sad that a 3rd party app could interfere with simple texting. My experience is Droid does not have the quality control checks in place Apple has. This could be a long 2 years If I can't get a fix for the issue.

Similar issue here. Intermittently not receiving texts. I can send texts with no issues. It will happen in the middle of the thread where one or two messages will never be received, then pick up later ones. Happens with iPhone and Android based phone. Both Verizon and Non-Verizon carriers. These messages NEVER appear, even when I restart the phone. I spent much time on the phone with tech, including them opening an ticket and doing a few days investigation with nothing found. Only suggestion they had was I live in a "spotty" coverage area, but this happens while I'm laying in bed (not mobile or changing towers) and at work (in the city with full 4G/WiFi coverage). Becoming more and more frequent. Have missed three random messages in last 24 hours (those are just the ones I was made aware of!!) Not using any aftermarket apps for text. Software is up to date. I really need a fix for this problem as I have missed important information and people have thought I was ignoring them due to me not answering them.

marycat69, Lets make sure that we can get all the texts coming to your phone. Sounds like we have been working with you on this matter for some time. Throughout the troubleshooting, have they offered to perform a master reset or sending you out a new SIM card? We do want to get this fixed for you and are here to help.

I am having the exact same problem. It seems to be getting worse. I have a Razr Maxx HD. It happens whether the sender is using an Iphone or Android phone, whether they are on Verizon or on another carrier. Funny thing is I also have an Ipad with VZ Messages installed and I DO receive those texts on the Ipad but I do not on the Razr. I am looking an an example of this that I just received on the Ipad but not on the Razr. It's one text that's missing in a string of other texts that I did receive on the Razr. Since I am getting them on the Ipad, but not on the Razr Maxx HD, I am assuming it is something specific to the software on the phone.

I tried installing Verizon Messages and using that instead of the stock phone app, but that does not help.

It also seems that sometimes I do receive a notification sound that I have received a text, but there is no message on the phone. I will then go to the Ipad and, in fact, there is a message. It never "comes back" on the phone -- even if I power off and on again, clear the cache on the phone, clear the cache on the email.

This is my second Razr and the issue has happened on both phones.

I'm hoping the purported update to Kit Kat includes a fix for this somehow, but it is very frustrating to have such unreliable service. At least I have VZ Messages on the Ipad so that every once in a while I can log in and see what I've missed.

notbitter, We do want to make sure your device is working as it should regarding your texting features. Lets get this fixed for you. I know you stated that you have gotten the device replaced already once and the experience was on both devices. By any chance did they also send out a new SIM card with the replacement device? In addition, when was the last time you performed a master reset on the device http://vz.to/1emL3LV ? Please provide details notbitter so we can get that device back up and running in no time. I do not believe that they gave me a new SIM card. I have not done a hard reset since receiving the replacement phone.

It would've been in the box with your replacement.. Just reminder if you did or didn't get on and if you decide to get another one install it yourself and handle the by edges Sim Cards that are touched even by accident in the Gold area's can cause issues with phones there installed in because of the oils and Static electricity we have through out our body structure..

Thanks for filling us in, notbitter. I do want to check on a few things with your phone before we consider the reset. Did the messaging work for a bit after you received the replacement and then start back up with the issue? Have you tried deleting longer text threads on your phone to make way for new messages? When the text messages stop coming in to your phone, are you able to send a text to that person from your Razr?

Same problem here. Ive talked talked to technical support who asked that I install Verizon messenger and do a soft reset. Did both and it worked for 2 days and now im not receiving random texts again (but they show up on my Verizon messaging app on my tablet). Stayed on hold for 15 minutes tonight only for Technical Support to hang up on me....tried calling back and am now being told to call back at another time. Beyond frustrated as I had a similar problem with my last phone....was sent THIS phone to correct the problem.

Support people are talking very nicely, thank you.

But its just a lo of words. No fixes, just hard resets and no fixes.

We don't want to hear " lets get that great Verizon service working you are used to"...

I am trying to run a company with this phone and I can't do that when I don't receive texts from employees.

I've carried my entire family on Verizon for over 10 years. But I will drop Verizon in a host second and get iPhones for everyone if y'all can't fix this.

There are no answers on this forum, just new phones and hard resets.... I am GREATLY disappointed.

What I don't understand is that Tech Support opened a ticket into my phone, I even provided them with phone numbers of other people I know I'm missing messages from to investigate "comparability issues" and they said there were no issues found, but here are groups of other people describing the same problems. There is obviously an issue

Allow us a chance to solve this mystery for you! With the ticket coming back that everything is A-OK with our network, I would think we need to do some work on the phone itself. Have you gotten the SIM card replaced for free at one of our corporate stores yet? If not, I recommend doing that and then testing to see if the issue persists.

I have a Razr HD and have noticed this to be a minor issue since it was new. My boyfriend had also bought the same phone as me and has had the same issue. In the past two weeks, though, the missed text messages have increased significantly, both incoming and outgoing. It is definitely bothersome to have this happen with friends and family, but it's completely unacceptable to have this happen with work texts. As customers, we pay a premium for the Verizon coverage area, but what good is that if we cannot even get simple text messages in a fully 4G area?

I'm not looking forward to the long wait on hold for a service tech to just be told to do a hard reset when there is evidence here that it doesn't resolve the issue.

Same problem. Texts not received from an I phone. Never a problem until 2 days ago. Now it is every other text not received.

For the past few weeks, my Razr M is also not receiving all texts. I have tried everything suggested on this forum and many other things I read on the web. The personnel at the Verizon store in my town said they had no idea what is wrong with it. The messaging icon shows I have five messages but i can not see them. When I do a soft reset or shut the phone down the number goes away but then randomly reappears. Has Verizon figured out a solutions for this problem that many people seem to be having?

I want you to receive and send messages with no problem! I've reviewed this device and I would like to recommend first pulling the SIM card on the device, power off, reattach the SIM and power the device on.

I have been experiencing the same issue with my Droid RAZR M. People say they have sent me texts, but I never receive them. It is intermittent. I receive some texts, but not all. Today I started receiving group texts in response to an initial group text that I didn't receive. It is getting very frustrating. My texts are completely unreliable. I got fed up with it and did a factory reset on my phone a while ago and quit using third party Messaging apps. It didn't help. I got the new Kit Kat update and that didn't help. I did another factory reset AFTER the Kit Kat update -- I still have texts that are not being received. What else can I do?

The same here, I will get some text messages but will miss more than I get, I have the most problem with people not in my contacts but even after I add them it doesn't seem to work. Group messages never show up but I will get a number next to my text icon that says I have 4 or 5 messages but when I look nothing is there, and the number wont go away. I will try uninstalling all my 3rd party apps tonight and see if that makes a difference.. Latest update seems to be the biggest issue. I used to enjoy this phone but now its just a paper weight.

Droid Razr Maxx HD. Having the same problem, at least within the last week, although it's possible it happened previously and I didn't notice. I have confirmed that 1 text sent from my son's phone on Thursday never arrived, and today 4 texts in a row from my wife's phone never arrived (and she was very unhappy that I was "ignoring" her). All 3 of us are on the same "share everything" plan. I have to say, the update to KitKat has been pretty much junk all the way around, although I don't know for sure if this is KitKat. Based on the overwhelming number of comments, it seems pretty clear there's no known resolution. If this keeps up, we will have to look for other carriers because not getting texts randomly, when the sender's phone reports that it was sent, is unacceptable, especially for exorbitant costs for the phones and the service.

I have the Razor Maxx. I am also experiencing the same problems everyone else is having after that unwanted upgrade, update, upverizons... Let's get creative here people. Next time you receive your bill go to your most favorite local Verizon store. Hand them cash for half the bill. I have a signed contract for a service that is supposed to be provided by Verizon. I pay (on time) every month for the half or three quarter service I'm receiving. Now if I didn't hold up my end of the deal Phone gets shut off. Remember everyone! Verizon is working for us! WE PAY THEM! We are not customers! We should be the ones keeping our money. If an Employee doesn't show up for work because he doesn't feel like it. He doesn't get paid! (in most cases) Well Verizon hasn't been showing up! The part that stinks the most we have to drive to their house when they don't show to try and get anything fixed. We could send them a fuel bill, perhaps an hourly wage bill for all the wasted time punch the clock soon as you leave the house, until you return home from the store. Or punch in the second you dial their phone #. Call waiting would speed up a bit I think. Folks I know its all wishful thinking and venting here in my own world. But think about how this service should really be working....FOR US!

I just installed the Verizon Messenger and uninstalled the standard messenger and I was able to receive the last 90 days of text messages through the Verizon Messenger. After going through the messages I REALLY missed a lot of important work texts and of course personal as well. Everything is working great with Verizon Messenger. I strongly suggust doing this. I actually like Verizon Messenger better because it has a lot more features and so far no problems.

SpunkeeOne, thanks for the suggestion. I've done the same, although I didn't suddenly find any missing messages. Nevertheless, we'll see how it performs over time. I like that the messages are in the web app too, so if one is missing, it'll be interesting to see if it's missing everywhere or just on the phone.
