No WiFi after Jelly Bean Update

I've been checking through some of the other discussions, and I am honestly having trouble finding some help.  I got the JB update this morning, and since then, I have been unable to connect to my wi fi.  My phone finds my network with no problem, and lists strength as excellent.  When I connect, the network strength seems to go haywire.  It shows I'm connected then disconnected over and over.  Then if turns wi fi off.  Then the process starts up again without me doing anything.  I have tried a factory reset several times.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  In layman's terms?  Thank you!!!

I would like to thank everyone who offered me help with this issue.

I went to the Verizon store today, and my phone picked up their wifi with no issues what so ever.  They recommended I get a new router, which I have read that several people have had to do.  My ISP is Time Warner Cable.  I turned in the old router for a new router, and everything now works perfectly.  The router I had was more than 3 years old.

I hope that others find that a new router is the solution as well.

Have you tried turning off the auto-connect feature.  I don't know if that will help or not, but it might.  I have 3 different WIFI signals at my house and I can connect to either of them with no problems.  I see under "advanced" there is an option to "avoid poor connections" which on my phone is checked.

I did give that a try, as well as "forgetting" all the networks and trying to log in again.  But I'll go through the steps again.  I think this is going to take patience.

Also, try rebooting your router.

I, too, have an original Droid Razr that quit connecting to the household WiFi after last week's Jelly Bean update.  Before I started digging through the various fora, I had already rebooted the modem/router, etc.  The latest "fix" seems to be buy a new router.  I'm sorry, but why should Verizon expect its customers to purchase a new DSL modem/router after a software update?  My wife has a Droid M running Jelly Bean, and it functions flawlessly with our WiFi network at the house.  This is a software glitch introduced by either Motorola or Verizon in the upgrade and should be addressed by them.  Come on Verizon!  Stop taking the easy way out and ADDRESS the problem.

i'm with N7MOO on this. My wi-fi works in my house and elsewhere, but I don't get 4G and it will not connect to the Verizion server to get the Tethered Hotspot function to work. So I should not have to by a new router since my Kindle, wireless smart TV, and other stuff works.

I bought the extended warranty service agreement when I got my Razr, so what are my options here?

I currently have a wireless network in my home.

Before this update we had 5 computers, 1 wi-fi printer/scanner/fax, 1 TV and 3 phones all connected no problem.

Post update, everything works fine except for the two RAZRs.  I have a problem with buying a new router because 5% of my devices no longer work.  Some how I don't believe it is the router's fault.

3 of the computers are less than a year old, as are all three phones.

This is a Verizon/Motorola problem and needs to be addressed.

Out of curiosity, how old is the router?

Did you try to forget the wifi connection on the phones having trouble and then add the connection again?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

My router was installed 3 years ago.

I totally agree with you. This is a Verizon/Motorola issue, and they need to do something about it.  I was fortunate that I didn't have to buy a new router.  But for people who end up having to do that, Verizon should get the bill.

Add two more phones to the list of customers who can no longer connect to their in home Wifi networks after installing the latest JB update.

I'm so relieved that I am not alone with this problem! There is no way that it's our responsibility to pay for new routers to fix a faulty update.  Any business with integrity would send another update to fix this problem.  I hope that this issue gets enough attention so that either Motorola or Verizon actually do something for their customers.

I know this answer wont assist you, but not every device connects to even a new router. Many times it takes setting up the router properly to access your devices. No one said you had to buy a new router. What I always said was to first access the router and see if there is a free Firmware Update. Many times we never check for a new update since the router is functioning as it should.

The next issue is high speed internet modems. Cable and DSL companies access these units and push out updates which in some situations do more harm than good. You must also realize a cable or dsl modem can be turned in to the company and exchanged for a new updated model, at no cost to you.

So lets see modem is free, the router update to the firmware is free so you pay nothing.

Your cell company is not liable for your not connecting to either.

Go to the maker of the router and see if there is an update. Also as I wrote before try turning off the modem and the router and wait a few moments for it to cycle up.Turn the modem on first, then turn on the router. then turn on your phone and let it search for your home network, and then connect.

Granted my modem/router was no longer supported by the manufacturer, and Verizon sold the system up here to Frontier.  However, we now find out in a later post that Motorola dropped some of the hardware support from this version of Jelly Bean although they did support the hardware with my wife's DROID Razr M version of Jelly Bean.  Therefore, it was actually a problem caused by our latest update.

Frontier would have gladly swapped out my old DSL modem/router with a new unit, but I would have been subjected to a monthly lease fee.

That's hardly free.

I finally went down to Best Buy and purchased a new ADSL modem/router.  Problem solved, and it also provided a solution to a connectivity issue I had with an older Toshiba laptop, Windows 8, and my modem/router.  It looks like Microsoft decided to cut the same corners.  Maybe they're finally dropping support for 811g ??

This whole problem started with an update. It was nothing that any of the

customers did, or had any choice in. While, yes, the solution may be

fairly simply and cheap (but not always free) I still can't believe that

the company cares so little about helping out. I honestly don't believe

that any company could have gotten away with this unless they are a huge

monopoly, or at least have very little competition. Yes, I can fix this

problem myself, but why is it right that just because my phone updates, I

am no longer able to use the WiFi that has worked before, and that I am

already paying for. It's not the end of the world, except for the fact

that these companies can make these really inconvenient changes at the

expense of their customers, receive many complaints, and still not have to

do anything about it (or have any consequences). I really don't know who's

fault this update is (I'm guessing it's Motorola) but I think that this

issue really reflects its values. They just want to make money.

You would have to know and understand the technical reason behind it which none of us do.  However, it is unreasonable to think a company can continue to support each and every product indefinitely.  As technology advances, some of the old supported devices are going to fall off the supported devices list over time.

I have a similar problem but my phone connects fine to my home network and has difficulty connecting to Verizon's 4G network since the update. I'm paying for a data plan I can't use! My battery life is crap since the update. If I try to touch an icon on the screen, it scrolls. When I try to scroll, it locks on to an icon. I get more dropped calls than before and voicemails are sometimes delayed a day or more. Every time there is an update it takes weeks to get the phone back to a usable condition. Verizon denies that it is their problem and blames Motorola. Motorola blames Verizon. I'm looking into filing a case against Verizon in small claims court since they sold the phone and the service.

"Cable and DSL companies access these units and push out updates which in some situations do more harm than good."  Uh, I think you forgot one - it appears phone companies do it too...

You are absolutely correct. Even with a brand new owned broadband modem Time Warner pushes out updates almost every night. My modem logs show this. But I have no problems with a Docis 3 modem when the previous one was a Docis 2 and behind the times. Oh and now its goibg to a 3.1 which of course makes my brand new modem behind again. It happens and I am a firm believer that technology is deliberately in colusion to make consumers to keep purchasing these products to make billions of dollars off our backs.

Additionally my new A/C router is already on its fourth firmware update so its a vicious cycle.
