That depends on what you were doing. Gorilla glass is shatter and scratch "resistant" It's not bulletproof. If you sat on it or ran into something you could very well break it. The only other explanation I can think of at the moment would be an abundance of temperature extremes. like from really cold to really hot . You don't work in a freezer all day or anything do you?

No temperature extremes. Didn't run into anything, just sat down in a chair and felt a pop.

There you go. Yes, it is scratch resistant, but if you put strain on the glass by trying to bend it, yes, it will most likely crack.
Sitting on your phone will do just that.

No disrespect but it wasn't built to be sit on, its not surprised that it broke when it was put under the pressure on your body weight.

In your back pocket, sitting down, I'd say, yes, that probably is normal.

You should never carry your phone in your back pocket. Carry it in your front pocket.

There are over 60 people including myself that have cracked screens with no explanation. My phone was well taken care of, fine when I sent a text, picked up 10 min. later screen was cracked. I don't think everyone here is making this up.

Oh yes it does !
My husband has had his Razr Maxx HD for 4 days and the screen is cracked . He is very careful with his electronics so this is obviously a flaw in the design.
This is his second Razr Maxx in less than 2 weeks because he had to send the first back . It was DOA.

Why should you pay $75 for a phone that has known problems with the screen and they sold it to you to begin with? Something is not right. Why should any of us have to pay another cent for being deceived and products being misrepresented?

I carry mine in my Front pocket all the time -- either in loose Cargo-style shorts or tighter jeans .. i always make a habit of turning the screen torwards my thigh. just in case I bump something while walking around ... I've yet to have any issues with the screen; no cover, no case. knock on wood.

I do the same thing as you. Hard items such as keys and loose change in my left pocket. Razr Maxx with screen facing my thigh in the right pocket. But I've gone one step further and added an Otterbox Commuter case and a Boxwave screen protector. I think of Gorilla Glass as a selling gimmick. Sitting down with a smart phone in your back pocket is a BIG "no-no".

I would say that carrying it in really any tight pocket would put a strain on the phone and thus the glass. I have had mine in my front pocket with the screen toward my thigh. I started this habit when I had my Droid Inc. But my DInc was a much smaller phone and easier to carry in my jeans pocket. With this phone I can feel the strain as I sit. I can do it if I have a large front pocket in say cargo shorts or slacks. Beyond that I have an Otterbox Defender case with a belt holster. I keep the phone turned in (it has the option to turn out and be used as a stand). Yes the case is quite bulky but it is better protected.
