Recipient has insufficient funds to receive message.
Why do I keep getting this annoying message over and over and over???
We understand your concern to have your messages delivered. This message could be due to the recipeint being unable to receive the message, or their service is not available. Does this message appears with all messages sent? Do you have a prepaid or postpaid account?
JavierMD_VZW
I keep receiving these messages too.... the number sending and receiving are both my cell number. Why???
I would be asking the same question, trockmom. I'm sorry to learn of any confusion with this message you're receiving, and I'm eager to assist you. The message you're receiving seems to be letting you know that a message you sent to someone else did not go through. However, let's gather some information, to make sure we're covering all our bases. Are you able to send and receive messages with no problem? When did this begin? Please share some additional details for me, thank you.

I had this happening too after blocking a number. I simply turned my phone off and back on and the problem stopped. ( And I know it was the person I blocked trying to text me causing it ...but the restart on my phone stopped it for whatever reason -- )
I'm having the same problem. I got the messages while I was sleeping and I also got a message from a person I blocked. I went thru and checked to make sure I still have that number blocked and I do.
I have blocked people in the past and never had this happen until I blocked my first number after the newest galaxy update. I'm going to try turning my phone off & back on to see if that works for me too.
My Verizon call filter app was blocking one of my contacts. (My Girlfriend!!! LOL)
So what I did was search for her phone number in the app, and unblock it.
That solved the problem for me! Hopes this helps!
Hello. Were you ever able to get these to stop? I am having the exact same issue. It’s driving me crazy! Any help is appreciated!
Kimaustin22, this is never the way we'd want you to feel. We can understand wanting to ensure your messages are delivered, and we're here to help! To better assist you, what is the make and model of your device? Does this happen when you're texting all users or a specific number?

I stumbled on a phone troll while using craigslist this morning, and blocked their number in the verizon system, after a couple of obscene texts. Now my phone has gone crazy with these "Recipient" messages.
After reading other's experiences here, and what's happening now, I'm assuming that this happens every time the troll tries to msg me. The message on his phone should say "Message failed", and this is my end of the Verizon feedback on that.
On the humorous side, in the last 20 minutes or so, he's tried to troll me 8 times, and failed. I think I popped his head off its stem. It was aggravating having to figure out what the "Recipient" msg meant, but in the end, well worth it! I'm smiling.
Stu6,
I certainly understand how those messages could get old quickly. Keeping people blocked who are sending inappropriate messages is a big deal. We're glad to help. Which service in our system are you using to block these messages?
AndrewT_VZW
I am receiving the same message. All of my texts seem to be going through. I got 6 of these messages this am within two hours. They all come from my number. I am able to send and receive messages with no problem. It began 3 days ago. I have had this happen before, but never in this quantity.
It is the person you blocked!! And if you open they text they can now text you!!
I think this may happen when a Venmo recipient doesn't have an account set up and the money in not accepted. then returned to your bank. I have a corrulation with the text recieved and Venmo returning some money I sent to a friend.
Was this ever actually resolved? my husband is complaining about it from his new Galx. phone. I have iphone and do not have the issue.
That happened to me twice after blocking a person.
I am getting this error message as well, and it comes in as a text but from my own number. Really annoying. What can be done to stop verizon from sending me the message?
I am sorry for this inconvenience renesummers. Don't worry, we will get this fixed. Just to clarify, when did this first start happening for him? Is this happening with just one contact? Which Galaxy phone does he have? RosanneM_VZW
I have an iPhone 7. Got the latest iOS update an hour ago. Received this message for the first time ever about 30 minutes ago. I have not recently blocked anyone.
That is certainly an odd occurrence and we want to get to the bottom of it right away. Do you receive this text at a specific time or during any specific event? StanleyC_VZW
Hello, @Sipperdog! We understand how alarming it is to see that you are receiving this error message. Are you receiving text messages even after receiving this alert and are any of your other services like calls and data being impacted? GeorginaG_VZW
I keep reading that "you'll" get to the bottom of this but never see any answers. There are hundreds of people having this same issue. Can someone please really get to the bottom of this???
AGREED!!! I have done nothing different, except download the new update!! :-( Please get the issue fixed as I see this has been happening for almost a year.
This began after I started using Verizon’s Smart Family App.
What is happening?
I have also begun receiving these messages. I only text a handful of people and they are all receiving my texts so this message makes no sense.
We can certainly understand wanting to know what is occurring with your messages and we are happy to assist. Are there any usage restrictions set through Smart Family for the line experiencing this? StanleyC_VZW
My boyfriend's line is also receiving the same messages and has recently blocked a number. So, evidently, blocking a number seems to be the reason for the message(s). Is there not a way to fix this at all? I've noticed it's been a problem for almost a year now...
This is happening to my whole family all at once and the message appear to be coming from each individual - like the messages I'm getting look like I'm sending them - so stupid. Getting blown up with random messages, spam messages, Insufficient funds messages (whatever that means - no venmo action), nasty nasty pornographic messages is ridiculous! Please fix this!!
I'm having the same problem. It's a group chat that is all post paid and is all on the same account with me.
Same
Just started happening today on my phone and another one on my account but not the others. Both are older Android Phones but not the same. Other phone has no numbers blocked, I have a bunch of numbers blocked. Other phone is not part of Verizon Smart Family, mine is. This is an issue on Verizon system end. Message is from my own phone number. Rep seems to not be paying attention to posts and just giving form reply. It started happening this morning before I sent or received any texts I had 2 from my own number with the Recipient has insufficient funds to receive messages. This seems to have been going on for months. It is very annoying. Verizon employee monitoring this thread please escalate to someone that knows what they are doing.
Started happening to me today too. I haven't blocked anyone recently. The response to the issue, base don this thread, and others, is disappointing.
I just had this happen to me an hour ago. It shows that I sent the message to myself. Just two minutes before that I sent a text to a group with two other people. One person responded and the other person didn't respond but I asked if she received my text and the other person's reply and she said yes.
This also started to happen with my phone this morning. Haven't blocked anyone in months.
Verizon - you need to fix this issue. I have had 6 in a matter of 90 minutes.
tcrgemini, we understand wanting to get down to the bottom of this. Do you have a number blocked? If so, how is the number blocked?
TionnaB_VZW
How do I stop this message from myself to myself: Recipient has insufficient funds to receive message.? I have unlimited text messages. Myself and my husband just statrted receiving these today. Help!
I received this message 3 times today. I've only texted people that I know have post paid plans. The message says it's coming from me and states "Recipient has insufficient funds to receive message".
The messages correspond to when I have sent and received picture messages.
Same issue started yesterday. Have received one both days coming from my number. I did the latest update last week and have not blocked any numbers lately and my phone is not pre-paid.
Seems alot of other people are having this problem as well so it needs to get fixed.
Yup.. just started seeing this today as has one of the other phones on the account. No numbers are blocked. Anyone find a solution?
Same thing is happening to me. Have you figured anything out
Same thing is happening to my wife and myself, whenever we get a message in a group chat that we have with another verizon customer we get these messages that look like they are coming from our own number, we are also using the verizon smart family app.
It is happening to my phone too. I got the message about the recipient has insufficient funds to receive message. It came from my own number. I am wondering if it has to do with the Smart Family being on another line on my account. Or maybe if someone blocked my number and couldn't recieve a text from me. Is this an ongoing issue with Verizon or does it have something to do with me alone?
Okay, nobody seems to be replying to you or giving you details or has a sense of whats going on. I have no clue why. But my friend is attempting to send me photos which use data. Thru the mms on text. Not iphone. Neither of us is on prepaid, both of us have unlimited data. I recieve said texts from my number as they send them. Texts go thru just fine. Both our data is working. I even connected to wifi and the problem is still happening. We both have good signal. Any other info just ask.
I get the same message and it's from a text I send to myself? How does that happen?
Just started getting these messages this morning on a Samsung 8+. No blocked numbers, not on a prepaid plan, no trying to send payments to anyone or receiving payments from anyone. It is OBVIOUS that this problem is either due to a recent Verizon update or is a problem that just popped up at Verizon's end (for who knows what reason). Additionally, as we all know, the Verizon support person monitoring this thread is no better than a robot that can't think on it's own. Hopefully, someone else who's experiencing this problem will be able to figure it out since Verizon has been no help at all.
For me it started last night, and doesn't happem all the time, and no no one use a pre-paid plan that I'm sending text messages to.
Wife and daughter started getting these also. I haven't received them yet. We are all on the same account. Wife has an s10+ daughter had an iPhone. They are both relieving these when they receive MMS messages but the MMS still goes through.
Add to the long list of complaints. we have 4 phones on our plan. 2 are getting these messages for no apparent reason, 2 are not. Obviously with the number of people bringing this up it needs to be solved by Verizon, ASAP please.
I started getting this same message yesterday. So far it's limited to group text. But when I can't get messages from my own family members now that's a serious problem Verizon. GET IT FIXED. We're already looking at taking all 6 lines over to Xfinity.
This started happening on my account last night, but only in our family group text message (MMS). There are 4 of us in the group chat. The 3 of us that are on Verizon all get messages from ourselves. My oldest daughter is on another provider and she does not get the message. I can text my wife or either one of my daughters as a single person to person message and none of us get the message. This only happens in our group message. This is getting very annoying. I don't know what updates happened that have caused this, but several things happened with the update that have angry me off. I'll deal with them, since I don't have much choice, but someone needs to address this issue.
Same thing. I have no blocked numbers but it seems to be when getting messages from a group chat so I'm wondering if I'm missing texts. Which would be bad.
I started having this issue yesterday and have received at least 20 texts from my own number. No Venmo activity and no blocking numbers. Verizon, this is not a device dependent issue. My research showed that Verizon has had this problem as far back as 2016. Verizon, please crank up your effort to debug this issue.
This just happeed to me as well. First time it has occured. Message appears to come from my own number, and occured at the same time I had a group chat going. Very strange.
My bill is past due. Is verizon limiting my postpaid service until I pay my bill?
This happened to me as well today.
From what I could find it seems to be scam artist checking to see if your phone number/device is accessible to be hacked. It's a standard vulnerablility check.
I am having the same issue. I work in the Tech Industry. On my bill it says short numbers 000-037-9073
729725 is PayPal
256447 is used by some Google apps
262966 is Amazon
The others are "shared" shortcodes used by multiple businesses - based on what you text to that code, you get a specific response back
We are having this issue on all 7 of our lines when texting each other, sometimes from the same room or to a family group text. Appears to be mostly when sending pictures. All phones have excellent service when they're received. We have rebooted all phones multiple times. All are Galaxy phones - S7, S8, Note 9, Note 10+. The Note 10+ has also had issues of saying messages failed when they have in fact gone through, although the failed texts do not coincide with the insufficient message. This has been going on since the mass outage a short time ago.
D_ciz, unwanted messages can certainly be frustrating. When did you start receiving the insufficient fund's message? Is there a particular number you are texting when you receive this error? Have there been any recent changes made to your phone or account when this started?
I rely on sending our messages to my group chat too Mccola6. I am sure you would like your text messages to go through without any errors. I am sure we will figure this out and help you. I do want to confirm, what is the make and model of your device? Could you tell us if this is happening with a specific number or just your group chat? What messaging application are you using? Tell me more about when this all started. AmberF_VZW
TornadoMom, I totally understand your concern, and this does seem really odd. I want to help get this resolved for you. Which messaging app are you using?
DiaS_VZW
Same for me... I have not blocked anyone and I have figured out that its when anyone text me. No one specific. A friend asked my why I ignored there message... which was the exact time I got that funds message. And it keep happening.. so its clearly whenever someone text me and Im just not getting the messages. Then a few min later, they text me again... it goes thru fine. It's VERY random!
Me too!!! It's from group chats for me too.
Same. But it seems I get the messages from the group chats though. Just random messages from myself.
mnsouth, thank you for those details. We have received multiple reports of customers receiving these types of messages and we are investigating. Does this help?
DavidC_VZW
Hawkes, it's important to us that you have access to all of your services. The issue you've described is currently a known issue and has been escalated as of 10/26 under the follow ticket:
Our engineers are working to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.
EbonyR_VZW
Same issue as everyone else. Also for me it's resulting in not receiving some actual messages/texts that are supposed to be coming in from contacts who I have NOT blocked.
Yep, I am also having this issue. I have not blocked anyone recently. It just started yesterday 10/26/19.
Hello CHanes, it is definitely strange to see you are getting messages from yourself, especially when there are saying ''insufficient funds''. Verizon is currently experiencing a wireless network issue in your area. Our technicians are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it quickly. We appreciate your time and patience. Let us know if this information helped.
GilbertoL_VZW
Llongston, we apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing. We are currently investigating this issue and need to file a ticket with our internal support. At your earliest convenience, please check your private messages.
We are working diligently to get this resolved. We have sent you a Private Message to gather more details.

Hello there, ddillon! It's our priority to provide a seamless network experience and we are concerned to hear that you are experiencing challenges with your text messages. We would love the opportunity to help you in any way we can. Can you tell us a little more? What message app are you using? Is this occurring to single messages?
RachelM_VZW
I am having this issue as well. No pre or post paid phones. No blocked numbers. My daughter gets this message 10+ tumes a day now. I get it maybe once. Sometimes our messages go/come through and other times they don't. The message comes to us from our own phones. Super annoying.
I have not seen the message since yesterday afternoon. I am now having contacts dropped. Anyone else see this behavior? A number on a text will no longer be linked to anme in my contacts and if I try to search for the contact it is gone.
I apologize for the difficulties with your Messaging service oconnordad. Verizon is currently experiencing a wireless network issue. Our technicians are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it quickly. AlbertoR_VZW
Texting is the way many of us communicate these days, Ldsnyder75. We make sincere efforts to ensure all texts are delivered at all times, and we’re sorry to hear you’re getting mysterious indications that the “recipient has insufficient funds to receive the message.” Let’s find out more detail about when you see this error. Many in this thread indicate this happens when group messaging. Is this also the case for you? If so, are you able to message each person in the group without error?
GeorgeS_VZW
Sabrinacarp14, have you powered off your device completely for a few minutes within the last 24 hours?
StephannieP_VZW
I am getting these messages as well. At first, I thought it was the messaging App that I was using so I emailed the developer who assured me it was not coming from their app. I didn't believe them so I switched back to the default messaging app for my Galaxy. Still got the messages. I have not blocked anyone so it isn't coming from that.... I only get this message when receiving texts from my family group chat. There are 7 users in that chat, two of whom use a prepaid phone service. However, I have confirmed that neither of them are behind on their payments which would cause their service to be shut off or trigger any other kind of "bounce back" message. These messages seem to show up randomly whenever one of those two people sends a picture to the Group message. No one in our group is having this issue except me even though the group is made up of users on AT&T, Verizon, and Straight Talk Wireless. I am the only person who doesn't get the picture. I only get this message. It started after the update on 9/26.
I’ve had this same issue today on 11/6/19, can someone help me solve this problem?
I apologize for the difficulties with your Messaging service Nickwrestling04. Verizon is currently experiencing a wireless network issue. Our technicians are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it quickly.
EdwardL_VZW
I'm having these problem. I just muted myself. Verizon was no help. They reset my SMS and they're still coming. I tested the blocked number theory with a friend and it's because a number you have blocked is messaging you.
I just got off the phone with a fast talker from Verizon. They have NO IDEA what the issue is and offered to put a spam filter on my phone. I asked them repeatedly HOW it worked and this woman had no clue how it will stop MY NUMBER from texting me about insufficient funds!!! I remember the days when Verizon fixed issues and people understood what they're doing. This is an obvious hack of some sort and they outright refuse to acknowledge it and/or fix it. blockheads!
I'm getting this message as well. I'm not trying to block anyone, nor am I attempting to send a message. I don't even have the phone near me. I just randomly get a text from my phone number stating "Recipient has insufficient funds to receive message." I have received two since 11/12/19.
We want to make sure you get the help you need about with this error message. What make and model is your phone? What messaging application are you using?
PamD_VZW
Did anyone ever figure this out? I'm having this problem with my daughter's phone... it's all android users (she has an iphone) so she can contact anyone with an iphone but anyone who doesn't have an iphone - she can't text or call (or receive either)
We are happy to help you in any way possible. To clarify, does your daughter have a prepaid account?
JoshuaC_VZW
Seriously? If you open it, they can text again? This is a definite glitch in the blocking text system that needs to be addressed. I can't believe Verizon can't get to the bottom of it. It is obvious something that happens after you block someone. Look how many people have experienced the same thing after blocking a number. My concern was it's always in threes, except once it was EIGHT times in rapid fire succession. I was wondering if that mean the person I blocked sent me three (or eight) texts. It is concerning to think the blocked person is harassing you with a rapid fire of emails. But the fact most get this weird message in a sequence of three, it may just fire off this message three times rather than the actual blocked contact.
Exactly! How hard can it be to figure this out. The common thread is "blocked numbers".
