Support for Jelly Bean? Not a Happy Customer.

I signed up just to comment here. I don't normally rant online, but this situation is just beyond me and deserves attention.

As a loyal Verizon Customer going on 13 years, I am utterly disgusted with the lack of support for the Droid Razr Maxx. Ice Cream Sandwich has more issues than National Geographic - it's slow to respond, Bluetooth randomly doesn't recognized paired devices, connected calls don't always ring through the handset unless I turn on/off speaker, battery life is atrocious, etc. The list goes on and on. Suffice to say, ICS is pretty buggy. I've done factory resets, refurbished phones, tried it all to no avail.

That aside, I understand software can be buggy..nothing is perfect. But where is the support to address such issues for your customer base Verizon?

Do you also realize that the Droid Razr Maxx is five...yes FIVE updates behind the current Jelly Bean release? That in itself is totally inexcusable for a device I purchased only 8 months ago. Verizon promises "Jelly Bean" in "Q1"...by that time, it will still be several updates behind.

I know Verizon wants to make more money by shortening the hardware life cycle and not providing a high level of support to such devices...that much is obvious. But honestly, Google should take a page out of Apple's book and not allow providers to mess with the vanilla OS.

Verizon is giving Google and the Andorid OS a bad reputation. I'm not surprised people are jumping ship for Sprint and T-Mobile for this very reason. They are willing to deal with a marginal drop in quality cell coverage and data speed for a device that actually works properly...a device that receives regular updates!

Consider this customer an unhappy one, and seriously contemplating switching carriers.

Before you switch, I would check out the forums from those other providers... Not exactly peaches and cream there either, I have looked.

I somewhat agree with you to the slowness of updates to the phone(s) but if you look at the whole picture, only a few years ago Verizon never had to worry about updating their phones OS.. It was only until the Android phones came to Verizon that they had to think about updates, and then with Google and their aggressive OS release dates it put them behind REAL quick.

"I know Verizon wants to make more money by shortening the hardware life cycle and not providing a high level of support to such devices...that much is obvious. The only other way would have been to have the contract written to not allow it, but at the time the OS was still fairly obscure, and the carriers would not have allowed it, as opposed to how Apple did with AT&T. Would it be nice to get to that point where Google updates it directly? Yes, I am sure everyone would like that. Will it happen? Maybe, maybe not.

Verizon is multi-billion dollar company, they should have foreseen OS updates on the horizon. It's Verizon's own fault for putting on so much bloatware to begin with. Ever wonder why the dev cycles are so much longer? It's not just a resource issue, but continuously having to check compatibility with the garbage on Verizon builds.

Granted, other providers have their own issues, but frequent updates is not one of them. We should not let Verizon off the hook so easily as your post suggests.

Who said I am "letting them off the hook"? I get just as upset with the way the updates are sent out as much as everyone, and I think Verizon could do a better job of it. I just think I have a little bit more patience than most when it comes to updates, because I went through the Windows Phone 6.x times when you got the phone with the OS on it, and the thought of getting an update was just unheard of. Apple started the update process, but that was still not nearly as aggressive as the Google updates. And how could Verizon "foresee" what Google was doing?

Is Verizon guilty of holding up OS updates to try and make people update their phones to get the new features? Possibly, only internal Verizon will know that. But you also have to remember that it is a big long process when you have 3 sticks in the pot to make your OS work...
