Unable to switch quickly between bluetooth and handheld

This seems like a basic question/function, and it may be something that should happen automatically, but...

I love using my Bluetooth.  But, if I have turned "off" (basically closed the bluetooth) so that it is not receiving a signal anymore, and my phone rings, I cannot answer the phone without having to reactivate the bluetooth and using it to answer.

Seems to me there should be a quick option, or the Droid Razr Maxx should have a setting where it recognizes whether or not my Bluetooth is functioning and allows me to simply answer the phone "normally"

Would appreciate any advice on this.  It's a little annoying to realize that I have a "hands free" function, but that I need to keep that "hands free" gadget within "hands reach" in case the phone rings!

Hello ekoenig61,
I understand your concern and I want to help!  Is the bluetooth device off or is the bluetooth setting off?  The device should recognize if the bluetooth is not connected.  When making and receiving a call you should be able to press the word Bluetooth on the screen to disable and enable bluetooth when all settings are on.  Try disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth device in Settings and retest.  Please advise your test results.  Thank you.

Thank you for your help -- I am still having problems here!!

When my bluetooth device is Paired but not connected --- for example, if I happen to take my cell phone up to bed with me, but do not bring the bluetooth and the bluetooth device is CLOSED  (so it is still paired, but not connected).....

If my cell phone rings --- I CAN answer the phone and I can hear the other person speak, but they cannot hear me speak at all.  My cellphone display DOES not give me the option to select Bluetooth

The 3 buttons at the bottom of the cellphone page

Bluetooth is NOT lit and I CANNOT select it

Mute is lit in white (and I can toggle that on and off green light)

Speaker is lit in white (and I can toggle that on and off green light)

I have unpaired and re-paired the bluetooth, I have powered down and powered up the phone....

I still have the same problem.
