This is definitely strange texaschic! Will those emails ultimately be sent? Is your cellular data disabled when you connect to WiFi? If your WiFi signal is weak, it may fail from time to time and all data tasks will fail. Go to Settings>WiFi>Menu(bottom right corner)>Advanced, check box for Avoid Poor Connections.
