When I tell a gmail to archive. Where does it go?

They are just hidden from your inbox. You can see them again by clicking "all mail" or by searching for a word in the e-mail. It basically just cleans up your inbox.

What I do is click on the star so it is shown in color then archive and it will always be in your starred folder for further use and then I delete it when I no longer need the email.
