Why won't my RAZR connect to the data networks?

I have been having trouble all day with my RAZR. I am currently on the 4G network and the signal strength and 4GLTE logo are both blue. However, when I try to use an app or the browser only the "UP" arrow under the 4G logo is lighting up. From what I understand this means my phone is sending data. The "Down" arrow is not lighting up so I assume this means it is not receiving data. Does anyone know what will cause this to happen? I am nowhere near the top 5% of data users to where my data would be throttled.

Hopefully your problem has resolved.  Sorry no one answered you sooner. 

My experience is that sometimes the data has outages for reasons that are not apparent to us mere mortals.  It might have to do with heavy usage in that area or maybe solar eruptions - I don't know.

You can try the usual toggle airplane mode on and off, or a reboot.  You can also try putting it in 3G only mode by going to Menu>Settings>Wireless & Network>Mobile Networks> Network Mode and select CMA only.  If you are in a marginal 4G area or if the 4G is having problems, this will prevent your phone from trying to connect to 4G and instead have it connect to 3G.

If you are still having problems, I would suggest trying to boot it in Safe mode (which won't install your user apps) and seeing if that helps. If so, it's probably and app that's causing problems.

If none of this fixes it, I would try calling or visiting Verizon for assistance.

Hi,

I don't know if my problem is exactly the same as drock1015 but I cannot seem to get a connection. I just got my Droid RAZR  and cannot see to connect to the internet either with WIFI or 4G.  I have connected to my homes WIFI  but still nothing.  I guess I assumed if not WIFI it would automatically connet through 4G but doesn't seem to be the case. What am I missing?  Can anyone  help?

I am also wondering about this situation.  My new Razr was set up Thursday(March 29).  The data has given me fits ever since. I'm either fully connected with 4G and processing data rapidly or the phone won't connect to data.  I have never had issues like this before with my phones.  Since the phone is so new, I wonder is there is anything I can do or if it is a defect.  Any others with similar issues?

Spacechic - I just got my phone on Friday 3/30, and am having the same problem. The tech I spoke to wasn't familiar with the problem. It seems that I have to manually choose to use either WiFi or 3 or 4G - the phone can't figure it out. I've never had this problem with any other phones, and I assume it's a setting issue, but I haven't been able to find it.

   Hello i also have data connection problems but mine seem to be more hotspot specific. My laptop only recognizes my razr 2 out of ten times and will only connect once out of that. Once connected its fast until a exclamation symbol pops up on my laptops signal strength saying limited access or no access. Ive tried thehard resets 3 in total ...2 different laptops and a ps3 with the same results. Im rapidly approaching the end of the 14 day period so i need afix or a phone that works        Thanks  Jesse

I am having similar problems.  My RAZR keeps going "white" (no blue indicating a connection) and I have had a lot of problems connecting the last few days.  I shouldn't have to keep turning the phone off and on to connect (toggling sleep mode does not help) and it is getting ridiculous.  This is my 7th phone in the past year (two Thunderbolts, three Bionics, second RAZR) and I have had MANY problems but this is a new issue that I have not had before.  I am now sitting in my office (in NY, and I always have a 4g connection here until yesterday, when it went in and out) but have no connection now.

Also, sometimes when I lose my connection, my phone cannot detect the SD card and I get an SD card error.  Ever hear of that one?

I am having the same problems, I am in NYC, and will have full bars on LTE and the moment I actually need data it turns white.  It's like some kind of sick joke. But from talking to other people it seems common at least in NYC.  I am hoping the rumored ICS update today will fix it, keeping my fingered crossed it actually gets released on the 4th.

When it Turns white the phone is not locked in with the Google Servers an as for I.C.S they've got to see if it passes the soak Test first if does When it Does then we might see soon after that. What i'd say you need to do is Pull the Sim Card after turning off the Device for 5 min. then Re-Install it be careful not to touch the Gold area of the Sim as it is Sensitive to Static Electricity an the Oils in your Fingers. Then Re-Power the Device an See if works a little Better..

It might be that your in a Area that has Sporadic Signal it's there but then again it's not.  Does your phone work when your in other Areas of the City or is this an issue your Seeing happen when you travel as Well... B33

I've had issues in different places and it seems to happen more and more often these days.  Very annoying.  And my issues are often in places where I've noticed before has a strong LTE connection.  Why are things so hit and miss?  Is it the network for my phone?

I called VZW support and the level 2 support person said I should try a new sim card so he sent one to me. 

No update today but I saw online that the update coming soon is not even ICS yet.  Is ICS coming any time soon??

I have seen my phone drop the 4G Signal an go to 3G then jump back 4 when i was over in the Neighboring City we go to. Were we live now is 3G but will go 4 sometime in the 3rd or 4th Q. of this year.  i suspect what your seeing in your city is they have the LTE but there are holes an until it's fully built out your Going to get a bumpy ride with it.  You may get a crummy signal at your Home but over by the Mall it might be crazy Good.  But there's one thing to remember when deploying.. L.T.E  Verizon is going to Turn on towers Closest to there Stores an were people Gather the Most:  Down Town, Malls ,Stadiums an Airports the old tower that's down the street from ya if there is one!  May say Verizon on the building but that doesn't mean the Guts in side of the building is of the L.T.E Nature it will get Converted eventually but not like the ones i Mentioned in Select Locations.

An as for I.C.S well..............  it's hard to say when for sure it's coming i was Skeptical when Android Post's like:  Android Central an Droid-Life started saying that the Razr an Razr Maxx might be in Such an Such Day's would be Going threw the I.C.S Soak Test. We had to have hope i guess it was Coming But it was not long ago i looked on Moto's Web Site an it showed it wasn't even on there Radar. So you can't always believe what you read. But then they put out that we are getting a Update freshner let's call it To fix issues caused by the Last Update. So hopefully it Takes care of the Issues caused by the Last.. B33
