Wifi strength/performance on Razr M significantly reduced once updated to KitKat/4.4.2

Hi ahp103! I want to ensure you're able to maintain a WiFi connection with your Motorola Droid RAZR M device.

Have you tried removing http://vz.to/1ktF6UW and readding http://vz.to/1ktFgvt the WiFi connection? I would also like to suggest soft resetting the device following these steps: http://vz.to/1ktFmmG. Please let me know how this works out for you. Thanks!

Thanks for the response, Anthony. Unfortunately, "forgetting" and then reconnecting to the desired wireless networks -- nor a soft reset -- resolved the problem.

In safe mode, I repeatedly receive the "Unfortunately, Homescreen has stopped" popup message. Over and over again.

Same experience. Updated two days ago. Yesterday the battery lasted less than eight hours. Today it was at 25% by early afternoon. The phone will not automatically re-acquire my wireless network when I leave the house and the signal strength is very poor even inside the house. I used to like my phone.

Same here -- all wifi connections -- both work & home -- are now weak and unstable at best. What's frustrating is how long it took Verizon to update this phone with KitKat given how long it'd been since the last update. If a patch is forthcoming, what are the odds it'll arrive before the expiration of our 2-year contracts (which I imagine all RazrM users are close to reaching).

I just upgraded this morning and I am having the same wi-fi issues. Low signal and unable to connect. Please correct this problem!

My RazrM was 1 1/2 yrs old...updated to KitKat last Thursday and experiencing ALL of the same problems you all are. I went to Verizon and they replaced my phone...took all weekend to get it set up and it worked wonderfully just like the last one.

Last night, it updated the new phone and back to the SAME problems!! OBVIOUSLY this update has issues...I'm going back to Verizon today and demanding another phone or that they upgrade me to another phone (Galaxy, etc) . This is frustrating!!

Only way to reestablish wifi in my house (standing next to router) is to cycle power...will get connection for 5-10 minutes then it drops again and will NOT connect until another power cycle. Also, cannot access playstore...GREAT!!

Mine seems to be mostly sorted out. Not sure which action did it but I deleted all apps that I don't use much and went through the rest (via Settings - Apps) and cleared data. In checking Battery in Settings I found one app that was hogging power and deleted that (Any Do). Read somewhere to check WiFi and make sure the Avoid Poor Connections box is NOT checked. That's in Settings - WiFi - Advanced. Mine was already unchecked. Anyway battery use seems normal now and the phone is now automatically re-acquiring my WiFi. Signal strength is still less than before. Also had to re-pair with the car.

I should have stated that I have the Droid Razr M. I see several other users having this problem with this phone. Perhaps it's a strange reaction to the phone/4.4.2 combo?

Sorry, also, during the crises period I found that if I switched to Airplane mode then back to normal I would re connect with the router. Don't have to do that now.

Turning airplane mode on and off allowed my phone to automagically connect to wifi as well. Let's see how long it will last until it drops.

Turning airplane mode on/off, unchecking the "avoid poor connections" option, and clearing app data all had no impact on the weak signal issue across all previously-used wireless networks (work, home, etc) since implementing the KitKat update...Battery performance has also worsened, but that's a tradeoff I'd be willing to make for a solid Wifi connection.

Any updates on this issue? I am sitting 15 feet away from an access point @ work and my Razr M can't connect. i had the same issue with my home network last night.

I turn airplane mode on, then back off and I can connect for 5-20 minutes, then the signal drops and I have to repeat the process.

I'm sorry to see that you continue to experience WiFi connectivity issues tonymorris10! I had similar connectivity issues after latest software also and I resolved with a factory reset. Give it a try http://vz.to/159Lipc please make sure to UNCHECK Automatic Restore at step 3.

I completed 2 factory resets with the automatic restore unselected. No change in performance (or lack there-of), although it was a huge waste of time to reset everything up....twice.

If I want wifi to connect, I have to turn airplane mode on, then back off. Then wifi will connect and work...for about 30 seconds. After that 30 seconds, wifi may, or may not, still show connected. If it does show that it's connected, no data traffic will pass at all, and my phone is worthless as it won't try to transfer data via 4g at all. If I am streaming something on Netflix, I can watch it only so far as the video can buffer in the aforementioned 30 second window. After that, I must do the airplane mode trick.

Also, I am a senior network engineer at a hospital with over 20 years experience in troubleshooting network problems, so I fired up a wireless sniffer to capture packets between my phone and the wireless access point. Capturing these packets proved what I stated above. I can see 2 way traffic between the phone and the wireless AP. Then at some random point around the 30 second mark, all traffic from the phone just 100% stops, even if the wifi icon shows me still connected, there is no traffic coming from the phone at all.

Please tell me someone in Verizon KitKat development team is working on this? This situation is bad enough to make me want to switch to T-Moble and just let them pay off the rest of my Verizon contract so I can have a functioning phone. I have already made the call to T-Mobile. If this isn't resolved in 1 week (that's June 5th), T-Mobile will have my business, which is sad since I have been w/ Verizon for well over 10 years.

The sad thing is that, I am certain I will have to may for any overages on my monthly data plan when I go over it.

Good testing Verizon...you should work for the Government.

I had posts 17 and 19 in this string. Phone still seems to be ok except for weaker signal strength. It re-acquires the wifi and battery life is back to pre-update. After reading the posts and my own experience I think that my issue was app related. I forgot to mention that I also went through each app via Settings - Apps and cleared cache as well as data. One app seemed to be responsible for my battery heating up and powering out. For me it was Any Do. After a restart it seemed ok. When the contract is up, Android is out. Nowhere on this forum or Moto Care have I seen a fix for Razr M.
