Will a master reset work for sure? Or is this just another guess. If I have to go through all the work of backing up my pictures, music and everything else and start over with setting the phone up it had better the true fix for this problem! Has anyone else tried this 'master reset' and had the messaging error stop showing up and get all of the incoming and outgoing texts properly?

I am currently experiencing this exact same issue. It just started last Friday. Have worked with both Verizon level 2 and Motorola technical support. I agree with you based on what other users are experiencing, that a factory reset does not correct this problem. I have also been directed to clear Cache, delete all messaging history etc.. No luck. The Motorola tech indicated that wiping the phone was the last step. I am not qoing to do this either as it is not identified as a solution for this problem.

Just this morning, 7-1-14, my Maxx has now encountered this issue. I haven't had any other issues with it besides the decreased battery life since May. Naturally I went to Google and searched for an answer only to find this thread with "get back to us" from Verizon as a response to everyone trying pretty much all the same techniques.
I too have cleared the cache, powered down, etc., etc. and will not be doing a master reset. Obviously there's an issue with Motorola/Google yet no solid response from Verizon who is our customer support connection to their products.
Communication is key and right now there's a serious lack of it on a professional standpoint from all the companies. Please "get back to us" all with any true fix.

I have had the same issue with the date, if I can figure out how to add a pic I will post it. I've been having all the same problems as everyone else have stated and also no resolution. Extremely frustrating!

My girlfriend and i have the exact same phone with the same version of Android installed, build and everythieng. she started getting this same message wheneve she receives an MMS, gorup or pic. She uses the stock messing app, the green icon. i have never had thsi happen and i use the Message+ app. She hs don all the things that have been suggested and it still shuts down. I'm going to talk with her about 'safe mode' tonight. that's the only thig we've haven't tried. I'm thinkinh that it might be some app that one of her friends had her d/l that is the real culprit.

Thanks for trying that mgr29063. Safe mode will enable the the device to run without third party apps. Please allow a full day to test the device in safe mode and let us know how the device responds.

Is there any other great ideas from the Verizon team as to what we are supposed to do with this crappy expensive service and product we have?

I've seen others having the same problem with the Droid Mini! Perhaps its a software issue that needs to be looked at!

i also have done everything that has been listed by verizon. safe mode, clear cache, clear data, tried 3rd party apps, all of it! and still nothing... at this point something needs to be done by verizon or motorola, clearly this is not a small issue with one or two phones, or an app that someone used to mess up something. This is an issue with verizon or motorola software that needs to be fixed. my contract says i can text.. which i cannot do, so you are not upholding your end of the contract i'm paying for!

I want you to be able to enjoy your messaging MtnMan5150! Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Is this happening with every message? Any changes since you cleared the app cache? Did you do it on each message app? Did you retain your existing apps during the update?

jboca148,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us. I want to make sure that we get all of your text messages up and running without any kind of issues. Let's try, Settings, Apps, All, then scroll to Text, and try to Force Stop, Clear Data, and Clear Cache. Are you able ot receive text messages without any kind of issues? Please keep us posted.

I want to help keep those messages flowing elund34! Is this happening with every received message? How about with sent messages? When did these difficulties start? Have you tried power cycling the device for a soft reset?

I honestly couldn't tell you when this started happening, as I dont know when I stopped missing texts from people, but am guessing at around June 11th or 12th. Maybe they figured I just wasn't answering or whatever. If I send a text to a person I typically receive a reply from them, but if they intiate the text messages I wont get them. I have tried turning the phone off multiple times on multiple days and as soon as everything loads back up that error message pops up before I can even do anything. I have tried using 'Safe Mode' and still get the popup error message.

I tried everything myself and at the Verizon store. I have been sent 2 replacement phones and had to send them both back with the same problem. I had to switch back to my old droid that I had before my upgrade just to be able to communicate properly. To say I'm not happy would be an understatement.

I just replaced my phone for a few reasons including this and my new one just started having this issue again today. I've tried everything except the master reset, hopefully they will fix this ASAP. Dropping texts is not something I can tolerate.

There is a workaround for this problem. The fact is, the default messaging app (little green face) is no longer usable because it crashes and you will not reliably receive text messages. Here is the workaround.
1) Download and install the "Verizon Messages" app from the Play Store.
2) Go to settings/apps/all and scroll to Messaging (little green face). Uncheck "Show Notifications" and click on "Disable".
3) Launch the Verizon Messages app and set it as your default for messaging.
It's unfortunate that Motorola/Verizon have not provided a fix for the default messaging app. Since disabling it, and installing the Verizon Messages app, I am now once again able to receive txt messages reliably.

Just press and hold the thread and select "Delete Conversation"
