message app icon not showing # of new text messages

I have the same problem! Hopefully Verizon will fix this soon. I have a notification showing on my emails that has been stuck there since a previous update and now message+ won't show notifications at all. I hear the sound, pops up in the notification bar but shows nothing on the app icon. All of my setting are correct. It's getting so updates scare me!!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know it's important that you receive all of your notifications. I will be happy to help get this fixed. Have you tried to remove the application and re-install the app? Any other notifications not appearing on your phone?

Hello. It is a verizon stock app, therefore it cannot be uninstalled then

reinstalled. However, I disabled then enabled it so it went back to a

previous version. When on previous version the notification count showed

on the icon that i had an unread messages, but as soon as the app was

updated to its current version, it no longer shows the notification. It is

definitely a verizon app issue. I have no new apps installed, nor do I

have any competing apps running.

REGCEC61, we want to get things back to the way that it use to be on your device. Do you hear a notification sound or get an alert when using the text messaging feature on your phone? Let's check your notification settings in Settings>Notifications>tap the Verizon Messages application. You will be provided with the option to customize your alert settings.

Same problem with messsges. Only change was software update 2 days ago. Verizon, please fix this problem quickly. Also, speakerphone does not work properly; can only hear conversation with phone to my ear. This has been on-going and Verizon has not fixed this at stores. It seems like they just want to make another sale and refer issues to tech support

I am new to Verizon and when I first sign on I was happy. New phones and plan for the hold family within my budget but I have so much problems with my phone since the updates had taken place. My message plus icon will not display message counts as well. Call them about it and i get the same advise that everyone in this forum has gotten. I am starting to not get a ring tone on my phone when I dial certain numbers. My phone also drops wifi for no reason what so ever. No one can not explain why. Someone need to find answers to these problems and fix them.. We pay you for service and I think we should get it.

Same here. I just bought the Motorola Z Play and don't get the number notifications on my Verizon text messenger app or Gmail. I hear the notification and see it in the notification bar, but there is no notification on the app icon where they have been in every other Verizon phone I've owned. Got on the chat several times and got different answers from every associate I spoke to. One told me it was because of the operating system on my phone, that Motorola did not include badge counters in the new OS. Another told me to download third party apps as a workaround (didn't work). I wish someone at Verizon knew what the heck they were talking about. Can anyone here provide an honest answer as to why this is happening, or dare I say it, a SOLUTION?

Unfortunately Verizon just won't admit their application has a problem.

They'd rather say user error then admit the problem was caused by their

programming and say a fix is coming. Make us all feel like we do not know

how to use our phones. I guess all we can do is wait for them to fix

I disabled the Message+ app which asked me to uninstall updates and revert back to the factory version (6.3.7). I did and then enabled the app. Without any updates the message+ icon shows unread message count as 1, which is correct. Next, I read the text and the Icon does not show any unread messages. multiple test of this prove that this version is performing as I desire. I then updated to version 6.4.42 (from the Google Play store) I receive a text and the icon does not show any unread message count at all... the issue is with the update to message+. If you want to display the count then revert back to the factory version.... for now..

The problem of the icon not giving a visual notification of unread text messages extends to the voicemail icon as well. I missed 3 voicemails because there is no visual notification on the icon. Once I clear all the notifications that pop up during the course of the day (or night), there is no other reminder to go back and look at those. This has only been a problem since the last update, during which all the icon designs were changed. Please fix this as it is a designer/programmer error/omission.

Sorceress9, ensuring that you're able to view text message notifications on your mobile phone when using the Verizon Message+ app is very important. I've also noted your reference to having missed three voicemails due to no visual notification on the voice mail icon. I apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you.

I just recently received an update to my own Verizon + app yesterday and my app is working just fine. I also previously experienced this very same issue (no notification of text messages). Application updates are intended to enhance the performance of the app. I also use the same device you do (MOTO Z Force). I received its software update on 8/29/17.

I initiated a "Force Stop" through the Settings option on my device and then I disabled the Verizon + app on my phone. This allowed me to access Google Playstore to re-enable the most updated Verizon + app version again. Please be sure to check the app's updated version (6.4.42).

I assure you this process won't result in you losing any of your current text messages. You'll be asked several questions when re-enabling the app again to your mobile phone (e.g. emoji styles, etc.). I recommend this option first and once you've re-enabled the Verizon Plus app back to your phone please test it out at your convenience.

I've not experienced any further issues with the Verizon Message + app since completing the steps I've provided above on my device. If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to the Application Developer via email at:

VerizonMessages@VerizonWireless.com for additional assistance. I know I’ve provided a lot of information for your review but I want to do everything I can to assist you and our other customers in resolving this matter.

The current version of Message+ on my droid is 6.4.42.

I have already done what you are suggesting (I did that process before I

even posed the problem online) , and still the app does not show how many

unread text messages.

My Message+ app was already at version 6.4.42, but I did a Force Stop and a Disable (uninstall) for the app. I went to the Play store and reinstalled the same version (6.4.42). I am seeing the same behavior as before...no visual notification on the Message+ icon. However, the icon for the voicemail and email seem to be working now.

Add me to this string too. No notification counter on the Messenger+ app. Everything else works fine.

Again, the suggestions given have already been tried, as noted in previous posts. Please have your developers fix this...this is not user error or phone error. .it is app error.

Being aware of how many messages you have is important kdog3ss. When did this start? What is the make/model of your phone? Do you get this problem if you use the default messaging app?

I have a Moto Z Force Droid. The problem is with the Messenger+ app not showing the number of texts counter. It started with the update of my phone on 8/29/17. Like everyone else on this thread, I've tried all of the suggestions and nothing has worked.

I have the same problem. I am missing some important texts because of this issue. I also tried everything I could think of to resolve this problem. I will revert back to old version if this is not fixed. I have been a Verizon customer for a very, very long time and I hope that this bug is resolved soon! I have a Motorola Z Force Droid.

I have also had this very problem. Interestingly, just today as I was looking through my widgets, I spotted the Message+ widget and I dragged it to my home screen.. I left the original app icon in the bottom "status" bar. The next message I received, the app icon showed that there was a message received. But when I removed the existing app icon on the bottom status bar, I could not get the Message+ icon that I brought over from my widgets, into the same space! The app icon pops out of that space not allowing me to place it where the original one was. But it will show number of messages.

I have to assume this is also a developer issue!

That's strange. I just did the same thing. Drug the widget to the home screen, not to the status bar at the bottom. The widget shows the counter in the top left of the app now, but when I try to drag it to the status bar, it bounces back to the home screen.

I went to the widget screen and added it to the home screen from there. App

would not open at all. Moved the short cut from the lower bottom row onto

the screen also, and no notifications showed either. Shouldn't have to go

through all this to get the app to work properly. Verizon need to fix the

app

pmat, updates are all about compatibility. What happens when you attempt to move the second app off of your main screen then try to move the app into the tray? What other tricks have you tried?

compatibility? We are all using Verizon phones with a verizon stock app.

Compatibility is the last thing we should need to worry about, especially

with the Moto Z droid force, as it is exclusive to Verizon. Just fix the

I tried moving the message+ app to my homescreen and still didn't work. Tried moving it from the menu, still didn't work. Finally did what you did and moved it from widgets to my homescreen and look and behold, my messages show! But ONLY on the widget that I moved FROM the widget menu. And, of course, it won't allow me to move it to the bottom bar.

Now that all of you have done their work for them, since they now know what DOES work, perhaps they can actually send us a fix so that we have an actual working app, located where it belongs!

gotta side with REGCEC61 here....this thread has been going for over 2 weeks now. It's ridiculous that this issue hasn't yet been resolved. Something tells me that if we begin to publicize this issue via social media and and begins to hit Verizon in the pocketbook, the issue will be miraculously resolved in a matter of hours....

REGCEC61, we understand the need to get this fixed. As mentioned before this is being looked at to get corrected. At this time we can’t say when another update will be pushed out to get this corrected. I would like to have you try an additional step. Place the phone in safe mode http://vz.to/2iv5Fg4. Do you receive the notification while in this mode?

This is almost comical if it weren't such an annoyance. Why is Verizon Tech asking the posters here for workarounds and suggestions? Is it just a bot yanking chains? Clearly Verizon can't be bothered to solve this as it's just MOTO specific and isn't worth the expense at this time.

Any news on this yet or have we been forgotten?

Not in the least. I've been told by VW that they are "working" on a fix, but there is no information on when that will actually happen. I've also been told to work around it by either downloading another application that will show the count, or to uninstall the updates. I have uninstalled the updates and I have the counter, but it's a temporary fix and not fair, given that I pay the same fees as someone else who gets to utilize their phones as they are intended to be utilized. I can't even imagine if I was having a problem with the electricity in part of my house and the power company instructed me to get power to that part of the house from another supplier as a work around until they were able to fix it. It's insane and honestly, I don't even think they care. Verizon Wireless has horrible customer service and it's no wonder that they are losing customers left and right, now that other carriers are actually able to compete with them.

I have the same issue, this is VERY annoying, the only alerts i get to messages are audio, i can not always have my phone making noise!! This is a very simple function why is it not already fixed?!?!?!?!

Ok...we've waited long enough. The developers know what the problem is. We have done the research and told you how to reproduce the problem. We have contacted the software developers more than once. So where is the update with fix? I'm tired of having to go to my homescreen and having to minimize what I'm doing in order to get to my messages!

Oh my gosh...do you guys even read these before you respond! We have told you 6 pages worth of what's going on, have been waiting for over a month for a fix, have reported to the Verizon team as a glitch! I did find on Twitter that Verizon is aware of it, and are working with Motorola for a fix. I would rather verizon not respond at all, rather than the obvious canned response without reading through the thread! We should not have to continually repeat ourselves because they can't be bothered to actually research the problem and give us an actual update!

It is absolutely amazing to me how many users, me included, have posted this on this site with NO SOLUTION OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS from Verizon! Then, what are we here for?

The single reply was a software template designed to automatically answer. One blogger then replied with more grace than I would have, with instructions to read the above comments because the answers to the machine generated response we're already there. Proof that the reply was electronically set off and not a human reply. Again what are we here for if Verizon is not addressing all our issues about abt ALL THEIR products?

Being a software programmer and web designer I am frustrated with Verizon's website in general - and that speaks volumes to the ignorance of the designers. It reeks of programming-ignorant upper management dictating to the skilled programming creators how they will do their job! There's no flow chart or logic and it's willy-nilly. As 99% of other websites are user-friendly intuitive and well-designed. We easily work through all others.

I don't attempt at failure on their website anymore to find what I'm looking for. May I suggest to others to do what I do? I always call customer support and IMMEDIATELY ASK FOR TECH SUPPORT! Walla!!! They walk me through where to find the thing I'm looking for. If this takes 10 minutes of my time it's better than 30 minutes trying to understand where and how to find what I am expecting the programming flowchart to do for me. It WAS designed by web creation ignorant upper management.

Seriously. With the kind of money that we pay for Verizon service! You support is poor. You asking people to reiterate their problem each time is poor. This has been going on since the August update. They have all told you how to reproduce the problem and the workaround. I'm pretty disappointed at the sub-par support for a premium price network. It's time to start looking around I think at cheaper pricing at other carriers. Sad folks, just sad.
