If you have unlimited data, mobile hotspot is a feature you must sign up for. Costs about $20/mo, I think. If you have the new shared data plans, it's included for no additional cost.

It's $30 for the mobile hotspot when you have a 4G phone and the unlimited smartphone data plan.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

By turning it on as a "Mobile Hotspot", you basically create a wifi network, and devices that have wifi available (tablets, etc), will see them and you could have them connect. You are then using the data of the "Mobile Hotspot" service.

that rep is wrong. it WILL get hot, but i have ran hotspot for hours at a time with no issues. my phone did get fairly hot, but never failed, or shut down or anything.

Verizon asked google to block apps that would allow tethering in 2011, so they could charge their customers for their own Mobile Hotspot service. The FCC said last week that Verizon was in violation of the spectrum rights for their 4G LTE network & were fined $1.25 million. The FCC directed them to give permission to Google to list any tethering apps on the market, which had previously kept them off the Android Market/Google Play per Verizon's request. Nice job Verizon! Now I have a mobile hotspot for my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0!!

I hope you know if Verizon catches you they can charge your whatever they want. FCC is ok with the old terms you agreed to which says you'd pay for such services like tethering. Just bare in mind.

I just tried to turn on my mobile hotspot in settings and guess what....its working? I tried it a couple of months ago and a message came up that said I would have to call Verizon Wireless to activate this service. Now a screen comes up that says that others can easily access my hotspot, do I want to go ahead and turn it on?

On what device are you activating the Hot Spot? Tablet or Phone? If tablet, I believe Verizon includes hotspot service in the legacy tablet plans. If phone, I've heard conflicting reports. Since the FCC tethering decision, some 4G phone users are saying their Hot Spot tethering works now when it didn't before, others are saying they still get the sign-up page.
My OG Droid Inc is on 3G 2Gig plan and I'm still only getting sign-up pages.

I am so sorry that information was relayed to you, 1818.
I personally have been using hotspot on all of my smartphones, including my Razr and it has yet to overheat & fail.
This is such a great feature to have. http://bit.ly/S19oN9
