"Unlimited data" Not so unlimited?

Ok so I have unlimited data on my RAZR MAXX, so I would figure unlimited meant unlimited. I guessed wrong.

So i guess I DID kind of overuse my data, but still, I was never told that if I hit a certain point they would cut it off COMPLETELY. I figures maybe just a little slowing down at the most, but right now, I can't get ANY data connection.

Help?

BTW- I used 15GB in 8 days. lol.

When did your data connection stop? Mine just stopped on me too. I still have a connection, but I don't get any data transferring

So your the reason why data has stopped you drained them dry LOL better call them and find out why, they need to know when people are having problems. I had a problem with no signal and no data and live less than quarter mile from a VZW tower so called and of course they have not had any complaints and my wife's phone was same way so I took a ride down road and got 3 miles away and picked up another tower and wham I had full signal and data again. Called VZW again and wow two days later they pulled up right to my house and I told them it was working again. That was cool they do investigate after two calls

Ben_Adair,

They don't cut off your data after so much use. The only thing Verizon does to a data connection is throttle it (manipulate your data speed) if you're a high usage cust on a congested tower (such as one in a very busy urban location).

My brother is a truck driver that uses Hulu, HBO go and Pandora non-stop and usually racks up about 60-80gb in a month without any disruption.

15gb in 8 days is excessive & why they throttled you, sorry, no sympathy.

Well I have sympathy for him as Verizon gave unlimited and thats the way it should be.

If you are using 4G services, you will not be "optimized", however, the 3G services will be if you are on the top 5% of the usage on a congested tower. This is secret unadvertised information, right? Nah. This is part of the Customer Agreement we have to abide by. Recently, due to circumstances I couldn't prevent, I ended up using twice that and my 3G was "optimized". This was my fault and the reasonable person inside of me understands.

You don't need to be using 4G services to avoid throttling, you just need to have a 4G device.

Oh. I always thought is was on the 4G service. I am not too proud to admit I was wrong, then.

No problem Charming. That is the setup I have, a 4G device but not in a 4g area. This also allowed me to get unlimited hotspot also.

Hello Ben_Adair,

Congratulations on getting a Motorola Razr Maxx! It is one of the most highly anticipated device of the year! The Maxx has a super fast processor, super fast 4G LTE connectivity, and a super long battery life! As previous community members have stated, data access is not "shut off" after a certain threshold of usage. If you have the grandfathered unlimited data then you have the ability to use a much data as you need on the device in a given billing period. To assist in restoring your data connection, I have a few questions for you.

1.     What city and state are you in?

2.     How often does this happen?

3.     What software version, kernel version, and baseband version are you running on the device?

From the main screen go to Settings > About Phone > Software Version. etc.

4.     How many bars of signal do you have?

5.     What type of signal indicator are you getting?

Below are a few troubleshooting steps that you can try to restore data connectivity to your Droid Razr Maxx.

  • Verify that bluetooth and wi-fi is turned off in the Settings.
  • Perform a battery and SIM card pull, reboot the phone, and retest data services.
  • Verify that there isn't any physical or liquid damage on the device.
  • Confirm that the SIM card is properly installed.
  • Check for software update on the phone. (On wi-fi if possible)
  • Uninstall any 3rd party task killers and/or battery saver apps.
  • Perform a factory reset. (See link below)

http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=49625&sayt=hard

Prior to performing a factory reset, I recommend backup up all of your personal information. Contacts can be archived using Backup Assistant and calendar entries can be saved on your Gmail account. Pictures, videos, and music can be saved onto a memory card. Once the reset has been completed, there is a tutorial on how to setup the device and your accounts. Once you have setup the device then please test call services, voice and data. If the issue persist and/or you need additional steps then please reply to this message with your findings.

Thank you...
