You need to subscribe to the mobile hotspot or have the tiered data that includes 2 GB of data for the hotspot first.  Then you should setup the mobile hotspot in the setting of the phone.

I am trying to use the tethering option with cord hooked to computer and phone. I turned tethering on and computer found new hardware but needed a disk for to setup and thats as far as i got, dont have a disk

Are you trying to share the internet connection or just transfer files?  You still need the hotspot feature for sharing the internet connection.

As Ann154 indicated (thank you), you must have the Hotspot feature active on your line to share the phone's internet connection. You can add/change features online http://goo.gl/9LJwq at your convenience. Once you add the Hotspot feature you can share your internet connection to your computer utilizing your phone as a WiFi connection. If you are trying to share files between your computer and phone simply choose USB Mass storage option when you plug your phone to your computer and you will see your phone as a removable drive attached to your computer. ^AC
