Basic Visual Voicemail is a free feature. Login to your My Verizon account. Select Manage Features > Voicemail. The first choice will be Basic Visual Voicemail. Click that to add feature. The app should be on the device. If not, it can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Make sure to use the free VVM option to avoid the monthly charge.

I have followed your instructions but there is a problem. When I got to the 3rd or 4th step there was a spinning wheel saying something about getting to finalize the setup that would not ever stop spinning. That went on for nearly 4 hours. I went to the Verizon store and the clerk took my phone and about 20 minutes later she cleared the spinning object. Then she continued to set up the Basic Voice Mail. Then she informed me that would last for 30 days then I would be charged $2.99 per month because it is only free until then. I then told her that I wanted it removed from my phone because I had understood that it was free because I just wanted the Basic. So I do not have in on my phone anymore.
I still think it should be free because all I have read about says so.
Thanks for your instructions but, so much for that.

What she set up was a trial of the Premium Visual Voicemail. At the end of the trial you can continue, or opt out and stay with the Basic Visual Voicemail (and yes, that is free)
You can go back into your Verizon account and activate teh Basic Visual Voicemail - it is free. Only the Premium VVM has the $2.99 charge.

Thanks SuzyQ, That clears it up for me. I have found that sometimes the store clerk can help, other times they just cause more confusion.

I'd be happy to clarify something that may benefit you. It is true that you can try the premium visual voicemail for 30 days and then be charged. However, the basic version of visual voicemail is free and offered to you at the end of the trial. I use it myself and most core options that make it great are still available. Please let us know if there is more that you need.
