How to unlock my Kyocera DuraForce

The phone I would like to unlock is a Kyocera DuraForce 2, Verizon firmware, which I have been using on the Tracfone network for several years. I've already ported out the number so it's no longer listed in my Tracfone account and I am unable to ask Tracfone to unlock it.

As I read through the Verizon requirements, it seems to me it should already be unlocked, but it's not.

Verizon, kindly tell me how to unlock this phone. Thanks for your time and attention. I look forward to your reply.

While Tracfone is owned by Verizon, they are a separate company, so you would have to contact Tracfone to unlock the phone. Their device unlocking policy may be different than Verizon's. There's an 800 number at the top of their website:

Thanks SynthpopAddict. Tracfone won't do it and referred me to Verizon because the phone was originally purchased from Verizon and brought to Tracfone under their byod program.

It's an old model -- 2019 I think -- but I believe it was purchased at the Mission Valley branch in San Diego. Does that help?

You're welcome. That's odd though that the phone is locked to Verizon somehow after using it with Tracfone for years. It must have been unlocked at some point, or it would not have worked on Tracfone. Did you factory reset the phone? If so, I suspect the way the phone was originally unlocked was by receiving a file to unlock it, and when you factory reset the phone, it deleted the unlock file. Don't know how old the phone is, but if it predates the current device unlocking policy, there may no longer be a way to unlock it.

Just an FYI - the Verizon CS account here in the forums is used by many different reps. Since you don't currently have a Verizon account and can't use the live chat function, I would send a private message to @vzw_customer_support
asking them if there is anything which can be done to unlock your phone. With the phone dating back to 2019, it may predate the current device unlocking policy of "use for 60 days on Verizon" because I want to say the current policy started in 2019 but am not sure.

You may have a point about the age of my phone predating their unlock policy. Seems to me there should be some workaround . . . I will try to contact them privately as you suggest.

Btw -- they say I never answered their original question about where I bought it -- I'm seeing my response on this page, but maybe that's because it's my page and never got sent somehow. Do you see it? Can't understand why they would say they never heard back from me . . .

I do apologize to everyone who responded. My phone is indeed unlocked. After I inserted the new sim card, I wrongly inferred the phone was locked because the Verizon firmware was still in place and the appearance of a message saying “sim card is not from Verizon Wireless.” All I had to do was leave the phone on and I would have noticed that message goes away, and my new carrier works just fine. Thanks to SynthpopAddict and again, I’m sorry.
