Nextlink / XO Communications Stock holding

I found a stock certificate for Nextlink in my Fathers papers.  After some research I've discovered they changed their name to XO Communications who were then bought out by Verizon, in 2017.
Can anyone tell me if the stock certificate has any value and if it does how do I go about claiming it?

The stock certificate for Nextlink, now part of XO Communications and acquired by Verizon in 2017, likely has no direct value as physical stock, since the company was acquired. However, you may be entitled to compensation if the stock was converted or cashed out during the acquisition.

To claim any potential value:

  1. Contact Verizon: Reach out to Verizon's shareholder services or investor relations for guidance on any remaining claims.
  2. Check for a Buyout: Look up whether the stock was converted into Verizon shares or a cash payout during the acquisition.
  3. Consult a Financial Advisor: Consider speaking with an advisor or contacting a stock transfer agent to track down the value of the shares.
