MTN Invalid when trying to update mobile number field on Account

Hello,
I've been having problems updating the mobile number on my FIOS account for SMS. I had contacted Verizon support numerous times and each time they said they added the number on my account. The problem I finally found out when speaking to support within the US was that my number kept failing due to MTN invalid number. She was unable to add my mobile for text messaging due to the MTN error, however it was saved as an alternate number for non SMS.
My mobile was originally my gmail virtual number, which I eventually ported over to GoogleFI mobile services to use with my mobile device. I have had no problems receiving SMS text msgs from other vendors except Verizon.
