Will porting my number automatically cancel my plan?

I'm in a situation where my company will no longer allow me to expense my VZW plan. I want to keep my phone number so I'm looking to port it. If I were to port my number to Google Voice,  do I have to talk to a Verizon customer service rep to confirm cancellation or would it automatically cancel my plan?

Also, for those who have ported to Google Voice...Would this make my number get identified as a VoIP number by certain websites who don't accept VoIP or would it continue being identified as a regular mobile number?

The documentation wasn't clear if I needed to tell a representative that I've ported the number and cancel my Verizon plan or it will just automatically cancel after I've ported the number. May you please help clarify this?

Hello, johnrevka, thanks for reaching out regarding porting your number. Once your number has been ported out, your number will automatically be disconnected at the end of your bill cycle. Please let us know if that helps answer your question.

If I am currently in process of replacing my Verizon number by porting in my google voice number. I have already gone through the process with Verizon customer service and am waiting till the 17th for the new number to take effect. If I port my current Verizon number to google voice, will the new number take over the empty line?
