Someone is using my email

I am getting regular emails for someone’s account, orders and bills - I am not a Verizon user and want this to stop. I have tried unsubscribing and clicking on email preferences but it takes me to a page that says “

We're sorry. We are unable to process your request at this time.”

Hopefully it's just that the other person has an email address very similar to yours and a typo was made when entering their information.  I couldn't find a number for the Fraud Department when I searched through the forums, but did find this on Verizon's website regarding fraudulent activity with Verizon accounts:

https://www.verizon.com/about/account-security/overview#acc-item-637

If you are also getting the bills for this account which isn't yours, I'd recommend using a search engine for "identity theft" and contact one of the agencies who specialize in handling this.

Thank you. The bills are for someone else (different name and address), it is just my email address that is being used. I’m hoping it was just a typo in the system that can be fixed - the customer that this information is supposed to be going to would also probably not want another person receiving it!

Hey Tw40, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. This does happen from time to time, and typos are a real thing. The great news is there is a path for you to follow to get this fixed. At the bottom of those emails there is a option that reads "If you think this email was sent in error, or you'd like to update your contact information, please visit our preference center." If you click preference center, you can select the Request Investigation option under Not Your Account. I hope this helps!

Hi Joseph - I have tried this option multiple times over the last few months but when I press the link in the email I get taken to this page (screenshot below) - would appreciate any help to request an investigation please.

I can't see the screenshot posted for now because it's pending approval before it can be publicly viewable on the forum, but am going to guess that the "request investigation" link discussed earlier no longer works. 🙄

If the other person's phone number is appearing in the bills and other correspondence being sent to the wrong email address, at this point I'd suggest texting the number in question and asking them to update their email address with their Verizon account because all their correspondence is going to the wrong place.  If that doesn't solve the problem, then the other person is some kind of bad actor using intentionally wrong information to avoid paying bills or to dodge debt collectors...in which case you should set your email to block all emails from the Verizon automated mailing system.

Tw40, sorry about the issues you're having. Would it be possible to try using another browser, and clearing your cookies/cache before trying the link again?

Hi Jesse - I have tried this and also had another person try the same and it isn’t working for either of us. I just want this person to update the email so I stop receiving junk mail, their personal information and notifications every time they purchase a new device or insurance. It’s very annoying. Is there a way that I can Dm a customer service rep the customer’s details so they can handle this for me?? I’m not going to call the customer service line because I live on the other side of the world in a different country. I would like someone from Verizon to help me out.

@Tw40, the easiest way to send anyone a private message (PM) is to click on their avatar (in your case, the Verizon CS' avatar is that big red V in their post above) and in the popup which appears, go to "Send Message" and it takes you to the private messaging area, which works like email.  You'll get an email notification when your PM is replied to or if you receive a new PM, assuming you have email notifications turned on in your forum account.  When logged in at the forums, your PMs are stored under the envelope icon.
