I got a phone from Verizon and never could get it to port over all the way even after numerous calls and chats with agents. So I took my phone back within 2 days and told them I was canceling service. I was told I wouldn't be billed. I got a bill for over $300 for connecting and disconnecting my phone! 149 for each!!!! Of course I did not pay this, so I get another bill for over $400!! For what?? Absolutely insane, I shouldn't owe anything at all I used the phone for a day and couldn't get text/calling to work both ways. I called customer service and explained the situation and they admitted that I turned the phone in after less than 48 hours but said I had service for a month???? Incorrect. They said they would do an investigation and ended up taking $96 off the bill because I did not have service! But still got a bill of over $300 for connecting and disconnecting the phone! Then I get an email stating they will debit my card on file in a certain number of days in full or in part if I don't pay!!! Now I've stopped getting emails other than one today that my NEW BILL IS READY????? I'm sure the emails stopped because they have put me in collections although I haven't heard from a collection agency yet. When I do, I will fight this with an attorney if I have to, I have proof that I "disconnected " my service that I never even had, and returned the phone right away. Not to mention the numerous calls and chats during that time with Customer service trying to get my phone to work then telling them I want to cancel service and return the phone. This is absolute robbery. I will never use Verizon again and I have advised everyone else to do the same.

FWIW, I had the exact same problem with Comcast about two years ago. I put my head down and plowed through it, enlisting the charge reversal by my credit card company in the process. In the end, I filed complaints with several State's Attorney Generals, the FTC, the Consumer Protection Agency, the BBB, and threatened personal lawsuits. It was finally resolved, but it took a full year to do so. Keep the faith!
