How do I switch prepaid phones?

ok so i have a lg verizon prepaid phone anyways it received some damage the other day making it harder to use it the phone separated from the slide out keyboard anyways i wont have any money to get a replacement for awhile  so a friend gave me his verizon motorola mb810 could that be used as a replacement can i transfer my old number over and will it cost any xtra cause i already have my bill paid for the month and dont want to pay more i really need this phone for work though so any help would be helpful thanks in advance
