I’m thinking the time restrictions must not work when his IPhone X is connected to Wi-Fi. Because he has school hours set that should not allow him to use his phone besides contacting his trusted contacts (family) and he’s somehow using it during school.
Yes, Wifi will bypass cellular imposed restrictions.
Need restrictions on the phone too. Settings/Screen Time.
True but it’s our phone for him to use. Not his. We made the mistake of letting him buy his own iPhone 7 and he tried to gain way too much control because it was “his phone”. I bribed him with the new phone and we got the old phone, that is ours, to regain control of the situation.
We understand your concern with your son getting around the Smart Family restrictions, Emhan. We'll be happy to help. If he is connected to WiFi, it will bypass the Smart Family restrictions. We may suggest limiting his screen time under the phone settings? Does this help?
Sounds like your kiddo is bright. There are clips on you tube on getting around parental controls.
‘Here’s the thing, either you let him use it and you can trust him to follow school rules and do his school work, or you can’t. At some point the school will intervene and you may be asked to pick up his phone at school. If it comes to that, he can go without for a week or two.
‘Parenting isn’t always pretty.
There did exist a time before smartphones and the world managed just fine. Smartphones given to kids is for the parents convenience, and if the kid abuses it, it can be taken away, and should be.
‘Ducking responsibility with parental controls, is only putting off the inevitable. Doesn’t matter if the kid owned the phone or not, the service is paid for by mom and dad, who can suspend the phone, take the phone, or replace it with a flip phone (high recommend that, they will never take it out at school.
To confirm I understand:
for the situation when the child is at home using home router/wifi in addition to smart family having time restrictions, if you have time restrictions under parental controls under home network protection on the myfios app, that should shut down all access except for times that are allowed. the smart family is shutting down the cellular data on the phone and the router control is shutting down the wifi.
is this correct?
Thank you, j0anne. That is correct. Are your restrictions for Smart Family performing the way you need them to?
