When are we going to get this update we were promised when I bought the phone, and I don't want to hear the phone was just put out and we should be happy with what we have. That is not what we were promised and other countries and other phones have it and for the price of our plans we should have it also.

Hi.
Verizon Wireless began pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the Samsung Fascinate on April 21, 2011. Enhancements include support for Adobe Flash Player. You can visit www.verizonwireless.com/fascinatesupport for more information and download instructions for the software update. Customers will also be able to download the update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > Update Phone.
Thank you for your patients,

For those who are very exercised about Froyo (AKA v. 2.2), a quick visit to the Android developers's site could be illuminating. Quite a few of the advantages touted for Froyo are already built into the Fascinate.

Maybe you have specific needs that are not addressed by the phone's design that will be fixed by Froyo, but I doubt it will be a panacea if you really hate the phone as it now exists. Which begs the question, why did you keep the darn thing?

No, I don't understand the idea that people are upset they don't have 2.2 without even knowing what advantages it would provide. That seems like they're upsetting themselves for no reason.

I have 2.2, and can say honestly, it isn't a huge diference from a properly working/stable dl09. flash is properly implimented in dl09, the gaps in flash lite can be filled by skyfire. the GPS issues have been fixed for most with dl09. and dl09 is a zippy release. honestly, most of what I have noticed with froyo is cosmetic, with few exceptions.

Can I ask when you got the phone? How long have you had it?

XDA and Android central have had froyo for weeks.
Go there and get an odin package for your phone. Quick and easy. I reccomend Adrynalyne Superclean 2.6 (Froyo)
Let's see how fast this gets deleted.

started running froyo (dl30) since the day (or so) it was leaked, I'm now running EB01. it's almost impossible, with the guides out there to brick one of these phones. it's not a windows mobile phone, android is linux based, so it's basically made to be open source, and developed by users.

Hi Folks!
I am new to this community...in fact this is my first post. I bought the Fascinate back in October, and was told to expect an update by the end of the year. When that did not happen I started doing Google searches to see if I could obtain information about a pending update. Then I found this community and started following the different threads discussing Froyo. At this point I am not as ticked off about this issue as some of you because this was my first smartphone, and it is light years ahead of what I had before. Also, I spent the last week of December in LA and the GPS function got me everywhere I needed to go. Since that was the first time I had ever used a GPS device, I was highly impressed an thankful to have it in a strange (and big) city.
As I have read different posts here, I have noted abbreviations such as DL followed by a number, and EB followed by a number. I have also noted references to ROM, which I believe were in connection to obtaining Froyo without waiting on VZW to provide it. Could someone please enlighten me on the meaning of these abbreviations? There may also be more abbreviations that I should know about that I have not mentioned, but that I should know about if I choose to download a leaked version of the long awaited update.
In addition, one update that I did get was supposedly to fix something with being able to use the emergency calling feature without unlocking the phone. It seems to me that since I downloaded that, I have noticed that when I text, the first two letters get capitalized. Is this a bug from the update?
Thanks!

the AB## is just Samsung's naming schemes for the update and tells when it was first made. The first letter is the year (2010-D, 2011-E), second letter is the month (Jan-A...Dec-L) and the numbers are the day. So EA28 (the latest official 2.1 update) which fixed the emergency call bug was from Jan 28, 2011. There have been two froyo leaks (DL30 and EB01) and weren't made available by verizon but many of us have run them thanks to android central and xda-developers.com

This couldn't be more true. As long as you can put your phone in download mode, bricking is impossible. Also there are several guides out there to fixing a bricked Fascinate.
Also, the developers have a superclean version, no bloatware, no touchwiz, no lag, no bugs. Consider it, it's much better than waiting for verizon to update the phone with bloatware and bugs.

I am running a stock leak, and I have no "bloatware", and only some of the touchwiz stuff (the launcher and some of the apps/widgets). the nice thing is, once you take the initial steps to get the leak on your phone, it opens a floodgate of things you can do/change on the phone.
