Activate Advanced Calling is grayed out on s7 w/android 7.0

I'm trying to activate advanced calling on my s7 with Android 7.0. I have HDVoice on my account. When I go to Settings/Advanced Calling the Activate Advanced Calling is grayed out. In Advanced Calling I turned on HD Voice & Video Calling. In Wi-fi Calling I turned it to On and set my emergency address bu Still Activate Advanced Calling is gray.

I have wifi speeds in my house of 115.88 down and 3.22 upload so I don't think that's the issue.

Any suggestions on getting this to work?

thanks,

Clare

Does it say "service upgraded to HD voice and video calling" under the grayed out title Activate Advanced Calling? If so, and you've turned on HD Voice and Video Calling, and WiFi Calling then its grayed out because it's already activated. At least that would be my guess. I have the same thing.

Have you signed into your MyVerizon account online and verified that you have the HD Voice feature on your line?

Yes to both your questions.

1. "Service upgraded to HD Voice and Video calling" is in the gray area "Activate Advanced Calling".

2. Advanced Calling is On for HD Voice and Video Calling

3. Wi-fi Calling is on and my Emergency Address is updated

4.  My account shows "HD Voice" in "Manage Your Product".

5. I updated phone to latest update on March 30th.

6. I've tried "Reset settings"

7. I've tried "Reset network settings"

When I make a call I do not get the little handset with wifi icon when making a call while  connected to my home wifi. My wifi signal strength inside my home is routinely >100mbps down and >3 up.

I spent an hour in my local Verizon store, they could not figure it out. I spent over an hour on the phone with 2 levels of Verizon support and they could not get it working either.

The reason I want to get this working is due to the lack of coverage in my new home. Apparently we are on the edge of the coverage area. The level 2 support open a ticket to investigate this. When you enter my subdivision off the main road the bars on my phone drop from 4-5 to 1-2. Then fluctuate between 2-3. I continually drop calls, fad in and out and break up when using my phone.

I have worked from home (when I'm not traveling) for many years and this is the first time I have had to resort to installing a POTS line to use for business calls.

Sorry for the length (and rant). Any help would be very much appreciated.

If the gray area says "Services upgraded to HD Voice and Video calling," then as vstjames said, that means it's grayed out because it's already activated. That button will always be gray unless HD voice hasn't been activated yet, in which case it will instead say, "Upgrade service to HD Voice and Video calling." In short, you already have it activated.

That's what I thought also. However when a call is made the little phone+wifi icon does not appear. both support levels and the folks at the store said that means I'm not making wifi calls. The call quality has not improved either.

On my phone, the wifi calling is separated from the HD Voice setting.

Right, but clareandmark said in their first post that they had turned on the Wi-Fi Calling option as well. However, I hadn't realized that getting the Wi-Fi Calling itself working was their actual goal.

clareandmark, are you able to pull web pages over your Wi-Fi without trouble? If so, you may want to go to your battery settings and make sure no battery saver mode is on, and also go to your Wi-Fi Calling settings, and verify that "When Roaming" is set to "Prefer Wi-Fi." I'd also restart the phone if you haven't since changing your settings. Failing all of that, one last step you may want to try is going to Application Manager and clearing data for your Phone app.

I am having the exact same issues. After taking latest ota my Wi-Fi calling, which had been working great, stopped working with same details above. Everything seems to be activated and turned on, but Wi-Fi calling doesn't work, it's like the phone doesn't even know to try and use wifi, it looks for mobile network only. I have a ticket open with verizon tech, so we'll see what they figure out if anything.

You can test to see if wi-fi calling is working or not by turning on Airplane Mode (which turns off all radios) and then turning wi-fi back on. Make a call, and if it goes through, then you are using wi-fi to transport the call.

You can also see in your recent calls tab in the dialer if the call was wi-fi or not. Calls made over cellular have an arrow-out icon over the handset, wi-fi calls have a wi-fi icon over the handset icon.

Lastly, my wi-fi calling stopped working after an OTA update too, but a full factory reset of the phone fixed it.

Yeah when turning airplane mode on then turning Wi-Fi on and trying to call it just says no radio, or radio off or some such and fails. A full factory reset didn't help mine, so you're lucky. Still waiting on a response from verizon tech support.

Hearing that you are also having this issue is very concerning Osendott . I see that you mentioned a network ticket was opened for you to address this issue, have you received any word back regarding any updates?

I am having a similar problem, but mine says "upgrading in progress."  Wifi calling was working well.  I had been using wifi on the phone for the last year.  Two days ago I had to do a system reset because notifications were not working.  After the reset it has been frozen.  I've done two more resets.  The Verizon Store was a waste of time.

We want to get your device back into full working order, DARPYM24. How long has the “upgrading in progress” message been showing? Have you noticed any other issues when using your WiFi connection?

Yes, wifi works.  Wifi calling worked well until i did a system reset.  I must be able to do wifi calling to use my phone at home and work because Verizon has a terrible signal.  Cellular is not an option.

I have tried to upgrade while on cellular, which required me to drive to a spot of good reception.  I have tried with a different wifi connection as well.  No luck.

In your messages, Verizon uses the word "upgrade," which is not accurate since this is a "restoration."  It acknowledges that i have already activated and paid for the service, which is obvious since it was working well minutes before I did your system reset.  I'm not commenting on grammar - I'm wondering if this is part of the system bug.

Another, wholely separate issue is that I cannot receive voicemail while on wifi.  It is essential that I get my voicemails when I am at home.  I have Visual Voicemail 5.0.49.  I need my phone to operate fully at home in wifi mode.  I won't know if someone has even left me a message until I drive to a spot where there is cellular reception.  I missed a very important business message this week, and didn't know about it.  is there another voicemail program i can use?

You have my full account details.  Please help.

Thanks

The vzw reps on here can't just arbitrarily access someone's account. You have to give them permission by calling customer service or them reaching out to you via the direct message system in the forum. Don't post your personal information on this public forum!

how is this arbitrary - this isn't a random choice on your part?

the point here is I CANNOT call.  I am using the community as the Verizon Store told me to do.  It took me an hour to drive to the store.  Are you telling me that this has been a waste of time?

What do I need to do to reset my phone.  I have been very clear about the issues with my phone.  What do I need to do to get it reset and operational?  This action is due to a factory reset.  It was operational before.  Clearly this is a system reset issue, not my account.

Please help me and others solve your technical issue.

DARPYM24,

Your security is important to us. We want to make sure you can always rely on your phone and get things working. I'm glad to clarify. This is a public forum primarily used for customer to customer posts. It is meant for customers to assist each other with concerns. We do monitor it as well and try to answer questions where more information can be provided or a question hasn't been answered but here in public we don't have any access to account details and we don't recommend providing them here. If necessary we can private message you and potentially reach out by other means but I know that won't work here since the issue was that you couldn't call.

I know your time is valuable and I'm sorry it has taken so long to get this solved. To be clear from your most recent post is this now working well for you?

I also want to address your voicemail concerns. Visual voicemail does require a connection to our data network. That's the only way the data can be processed and they won't come in through it until you establish that connection. As an alternative though once the calling is working you can always dial *86 on the phone to check your voicemail. There won't be an alert so it may not be perfect but you can periodically call in and check that way.

the network adapter needed to be reset.  account details are irrelevant.  2 days, 2 hours of driving, and hours of run-around from Verizon for a very basic reset.  horrific support and service.
